Araki originally planned the series as a trilogy, with the final confrontation taking place in present-day Japan. However, Araki did not want Part 3 to be a tournament affair, which was popular in Weekly Shnen Jump at the time, and therefore decided to make it a "road movie" inspired by Around the World in Eighty Days.[11] With Part 4, Araki said that he moved away from "muscle men" as they fell out of popularity with readers and he wanted to focus more on fashion. When designing his characters' outfits, Araki considers both everyday fashion and "cartoonish, bizarre clothing that would be impractical in real life".[12] For Part 6, Araki wrote a female protagonist for the first time which he found complicated, but also interesting due to the humanity she could possess.[13] He later described Part 2's much earlier supporting character Lisa Lisa as fresh and "unheard of" in both manga and society in general for its time, and said it was exciting to challenge people's expectations with the female warrior-type.[6] Having not specifically set out on creating a disabled character, Araki explained that Part 7's paraplegic Johnny Joestar was a natural result of wanting to show a character who could grow, both physically and mentally, during a race where "he would be forced not only to rely on other people, but horses as well."[12]

The story in JoJo is divided between two continuities. The first includes Parts 1 to 6, detailed in Weekly Shnen Jump from 1987 to 2003, while the second includes Parts 7, 8, and 9, detailed in seinen magazine Ultra Jump from 2004 to the present. The plot across these stories is supplied in multi-chapter arcs detailing precarious, melodramatic conflicts between parties defined both by unique supernatural powers, mainly by the versatile Stand phenomenon, and exclusive ambitions, attitudes or moral standards. These arcs vary in tone, alternating adventure, suspense, mystery, and horror; always through action, and with frequently embedded comedy. Typically, a race emerges among the heroes of a story to intercept a powerful central antagonist.

Jojos bizarre adventure was written by Hirohiko Araki in 1987 and serialized in Shounen Jump. It has sold over 100 million copies, making it one of the best-selling manga series in history. The Jojo anime story features multiple arcs with various characters like Joseph Joestar, Dio Brando, and Jotaro Kujo, with the main character in each chapter or part as they are called nicknamed Jojo. JoJo's genre spans action, adventure, comedy, tragedy, mystery, and Horror, and the figure collection reflects this. It is most popularly known for its Standability, the pillar men who created the stone mask, and the very popular Stardust Crusaders arc and its characters Dio and Jotaro. The series also contains hundreds of references to popular Western music and modern film.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a continuing manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It currently has nine Parts and two different timelines as well as a spin-off focusing on the character Rohan Kishibe and the supernatural. Within them, various members of the Joestar family (always being capable of being nicknamed JoJo) embark on bizarre journeys in different time periods. In the first six Parts, the main influence of these quests is somehow related to the malevolent Dio Brando. In the seventh and eighth Parts, it is caused and driven by a mysterious Holy Corpse, and toward the end of the eighth part and ongoing ninth part, mysterious forces known as mechanisms.

Taking place in 1938-39, the story follows the misadventures of Joseph Joestar, grandson of Jonathan, as he masters his innate Hamon abilities in order to combat hostile, ancient super-beings named the Pillar Men, creators of the Stone Mask that plot to become the ultimate lifeforms.

A light novel following the life of George "Jorge" Joestar, the son of Jonathan and his experiences with the supernatural, zombies, war, etc and Joji Joestar, the adopted grandson of the legendary Joseph Joestar in the 37th iteration of the universe who works as a detective solving cases in which he eventually comes into contact with the Ultimate Thing. George and Joji, even if not knowingly, work together to unravel the secrets behind a string of mysterious words and uncover the truth behind a bizarre entity known as "Beyond".

A key difference between JoJo and other anime is how the former handles bizarre things. For instance, the powers in Naruto were all extremely dangerous, but there is no such thing in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Fans can find a Stand that can make food taste better or a tower with a Stand that traps people and prevents them from leaving. There are other Stands such as Joseph's Purple Hermit, which is almost useless in fights but good for tracking people.
