Day Services Support
Our Day Services can be a lifeline to older people. They are invaluable, fun places where older people leave their troubles at the door and enjoy each other’s company over a hot meal. Some people come for the social aspect and activities, some come for a break from caring responsibilities at home, while others are dealing with relationship breakdowns or bereavement.
Activities Coordinator
You’ll organise social activities for people who need care and support and support them to take part.
Activities workers are usually based in care homes or day centres, but you could also work in someone’s home or the community.
Telephone Befriender
The Befriending is a service was set up to support people over 60 years old who may be suffering from the debilitating effects of loneliness and/or social isolation. The main aim of the the Telephone Befriending service is to provide support to clients using the service through a weekly telephone call. Telephone befrienders usually call the same person each week at the same time, to provide a listening ear, links to other services and to monitor general well being.
Befriender / Visitor

Bingo Caller
We are looking for volunteers to organise and run a regular bingo club
As well as volunteers to call Bingo numbers, we are also looking for people who would be responsible for setting up the session, arranging refreshments, collecting the money, and possibly organising a small raffle.
Depending on your preferences, these tasks could be shared amongst several volunteers, and some of the members will be willing to help out too.
Walk Leader
Walking for Health wouldn't exist without our fantastic volunteer walk leaders, who lead health walks taking place around the country. As a volunteer walk leader, you’ll be helping people in your community to get active and healthy, providing vital support that they otherwise might not get. As well as ensuring walks are friendly, safe and well run, walk leaders are also our ambassadors for walking, their scheme and Walking for Health - showing people that walking really can make a big difference to their lives.
Community Cafe Support
The café is open to the public. The aim of the café is to provide healthy, delicious, and affordable meals and snacks and to serve as an active social hub for those living in the surrounding areas. The café also serves to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities and address the issues of malnutrition and loneliness and social isolation amongst older people living in South Tyneside.
