Community Responder

Impact

The role of the Community Responder is varied, from o provide life-saving emergency treatment to people in their own communities to supporting community projects - Homeless Service, Hospital Care Volunteering initiative, Night-Time Economy support, Falls Response project or similar

Expected Time Commitment:

60 hours per year

What you would be involved in?

  • Responding on your own to specific calls as part of a local team of volunteers at mutually agreed times within your local community.

  • Assessing patients for immediately life threatening conditions.

  • Providing basic emergency care until ambulance personnel arrive.

  • Ensuring that equipment being used is fit for purpose, used correctly, is clean and defects reported

  • Complying with our volunteer charter and meet the expectations for the role.

  • Keeping appropriate patient treatment records, personal training received and volunteering hours.

  • Undertaking training for role and keeping up to date as required. Maintaining patient safety and confidentiality at all times.

We are looking for people who:

  • Are extremely reliable, trustworthy and good under pressure.

  • Are able to work on their own and also with clinical professionals as part of a team.

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Are fit enough to meet the physical requirement for role.

  • Are willing to undergo relevant training for this role and have the capacity to sustain and develop their skills and knowledge.

Fitness:

  • Be in good health

  • Be physically fit for a role that may involve some moving and handling - you should be able to walk at least 20 meters holding the equivalent of two full shopping bags
