About The Artist

John’s passion for photography began when his parents purchased a Minolta 35mm camera for his high school graduation. He then worked a summer job to save money for some inexpensive darkroom equipment and started developing his own work.

That was the beginning of his love for black and white photography. John is completely self-taught and began developing his creative side by shooting everyday landscapes and streetscapes in urban Brooklyn and Long Island, NY. After his 2nd year of college, he was fortunate enough to have his hobby recognized by a local editor from “Look” magazine who offered him a position with the company.

After several years apprenticeship, John formed John McManus Photography to focus primarily on architectural/interior photography. For the past 35 his photography has landed the front covers of hundreds of magazines both in New York and the Savannah/Hilton head area as an assignment photographer.

Throughout the rigors of John’s many years of architectural photography work, John found solace and refuge in the flowing landscapes of coastal Georgia and South Carolina.

His collection of landscapes and seascapes of the Low Country offers a glimpse at his peaceful commune with nature through his camera. John tries to find and photograph his subjects in the hopes for others to see and experience what he feels and sees throughout his photographic journey.
