John-Erik Bergkvist
Originally from Trollhättan near the Swedish west coast, I began my career as an analyst in the Swedish Government Office. Although I enjoyed public policy-related analysis, my fondness for theorizing big and time-independent questions led me to pursue a PhD at the Stockholm School of Economics.
In my dissertation, "Behavioral Foundations of Grand Challenge Partnerships - Essays on Control, Coordination, Channelization and the Use of External Search", I explore:
Behavioral foundations of division of labor and integration of effort in grand challenge partnerships
External search in the context of grand challenges
Mission-driven innovation policy
I'm an incoming Wallenberg Postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University and have recently visited Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam School of Business and Economics. I'm always delighted to exchange ideas on organization design in the context of grand challenges, exploring potential research synergies and opportunities for collaboration. I'm available for positions starting in fall 2026.
