John Qi Dong is an associate professor (with tenure) at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is also a visiting fellow at Center for Digital Innovation, Georgia State University in the United States. Before moving to Singapore, he was a professor at Trinity College Dublin, University of Dublin in Ireland, and an assistant professor and then an associate professor (early promoted) at University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He received a PhD degree in information systems from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, a master degree and a bachelor degree, both in management, from Renmin University of China.

He conducts computational and empirical research at the intersection of information systems and strategic management. His research appears in journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information & Management, MIS Quarterly Executive, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Product Innovation Management, and Journal of Business Research. His publications have received more than 5500 citations according to Google Scholar. Stanford University named him in the World's Top 2% Scientists for 2023, and his work on digital transformation was cited in the 2024 Economic Report of the President.

He serves as an associate editor for MIS Quarterly, and as a senior editor for Journal of the Association for Information Systems. Currently, he is also a guest associate editor for MIS Quarterly special issue on registered reports, a guest editor for Strategic Entrepreneurial Journal special issue on entrepreneurial decisions in the digital age, and a consulting editor for International Journal of Management Reviews. Besides the editorial roles for journals, he is co-editing a book with Peter Verhoef entitled A Research Agenda for Digital Transformation: Multidisciplinary Perspectives to be published by Edward Elgar Publishing and another book with Samuele Murtinu entitled An Encyclopedia of AI-Based Organizations to be published by World Scientific Publishing, and regularly serves as a track chair for International Conference on Information Systems and Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems.

He is the recipient of numerous academic honors and awards, including the Best Paper Award at Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems in 2024, the Association for Information Systems Mid-Career Award in 2023, the MIS Quarterly Outstanding Associate Editor Award in 2022, the Professorial Fellowship of Trinity College Dublin in 2022, the Research Excellence Award from Trinity College Dublin in 2021, the Best Short Paper Award (finalist) at International Conference on Information Systems in 2021, the Association for Information Systems Early Career Award in 2020, the Best Paper Award (finalist) at Strategic Management Society Special Conference in 2018, the Outstanding Junior Researcher Award from University of Groningen in 2017, the Best Paper Award (runner-up) at Academy of Management Annual Meeting in 2015, and the Dean's PhD Fellowship for Research Excellence from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2013.
