I conduct research within the area of Public Economics and Behavioral Finance with a focus on retirement and pensions. My work is published in well-ranked international journals, including The Economic Journal, Management Science, European Economic Review, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Entrepreneurship, Theory and Practice, and International Tax and Public Finance. I take an active part in the national public pension debate and I have published several policy reports on various aspects of the Swedish pension system.
In 2025, I was appointed by the Swedish Government to chair a working group at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs tasked with carrying out the preparatory review of the basic protection in the Swedish pension system.
Building on this work, I was appointed Special Investigator (särskild utredare) in 2026 to lead the formal government inquiry on how the basic protection can be reformed. The inquiry will examine how the different benefits can be given a more coherent structure and made simpler, better targeted and more effective, while also considering poverty reduction and incentives for work and long working lives. I am a Senior Associate Professor of Economics, with a focus on finance, at Jönköping International Business School, Jönköping University. Between 2016 and 2017 I was an Assistant Professor at Uppsala University. I am also Director of Studies for Economics, Finance and Statistics at Jönköping International Business School.
I currently lead three externally funded research projects:
Digital pension planning conducted in collaboration with minPension and funded by the Hamrin Foundation.
Economic and social conequences of grey divorce, in collaboration with SPF Seniorerna and funded by the Kamprad Family Foundation.
Does the age for automatic pension payments affect the decision to retire? In collaboration with Jana Schuetz and funded by IFAU.
I am affiliated with the Uppsala Center For Fiscal Studies (UCFS), Centre for Entrepreneurship and Spatial Studies (CEnSE), the Global Labor Organization (GLO), Institute for Evaluation of Labor Market and Education Policy (IFAU). I am also a Research Fellow at Netspar.
I received a PhD in Economics from Uppsala University in 2016.
