The Portable Eyeglass Cleaning Project is part of PLTW’s Engineering Design and Development Class. Our mission is to build a more portable and efficient method of cleaning eyeglasses. Industry experts state that glasses can be easily damaged by casual cleanings, leaving the lenses with a scratched surface that can hinder vision. Experts suggest that cleaning glasses with the corner of a shirt, while not good for lenses, is convenient, and therefore a popular method. Our research has led us to find multiple attempts to solve this problem, but none are fully successful. Through our research, we have come to the conclusion that the method must clean the lens leaving it free of smudges or dust/ dirt particles, must not scratch the lens, and must be easily transported.
