Update as of 2-8-2024
UA Local 290 Friends and Family,
Earlier today, Thursday, February 8th, I received the news from UA General President Mark McManus that my election protest has been denied. Serving as your Union Rep. for the past 6 years has been a profound honor. In light of this decision from the UA, I've connected with Brother Paul Elder to ensure a smooth transition, with his official start at the Union office on Monday morning, February 12th. The newly elected officers will be sworn in during the upcoming union meeting on Friday, February 16th.
Congratulations to all the newly elected members, and heartfelt gratitude to those who courageously ran for officer positions without clinching victory. In the face of life's challenges, remember not to throw in the towel. Every hurdle is a chance for a turnaround, so stay strong, resilient, and keep moving forward!
The essence of the union movement lies not in individualism but in a collective voice advocating for and safeguarding the interests of working people. I remain steadfast in upholding these values that have been integral to my life.
As I step back, I urge the entire Local 290 membership to rally behind our newly elected officers and appointed union representatives. We've all been the new person at some point; let's support each other in reaching new heights.
Solidarity Forever,
Joe Neely
