Biography - Music Producer & Keyboardist
Joel Liberato is a talented music producer and keyboardist who has been working with internationally renowned singer Romeo Santos, “El Rey de la Bachata,” since 2011.
Born in Nagua, Dominican Republic, Joel developed a passion for music at just seven years old. Despite financial challenges, he honed his craft, earning a reputation as a prodigious musician. After performing with various orchestras in the Dominican Republic, he expanded his musical range in the U.S., mastering genres like merengue, salsa, cumbia, bolero, and bachata.
His unique keyboard style, blending tropical and modern influences, caught the attention of Romeo Santos, who made him the band’s lead keyboardist. Joel’s first performance with Santos was in Mexico City in 2011, marking the beginning of a successful career.
He has since toured the world with Romeo Santos, playing a key role in major tours, including:
• Formula Vol. 1 Tour (2012-2013)
• Formula Vol. 2 Tour (2014-2016)
• Golden Tour (2018-2019)
• Utopía Tour (2019)
• Formula Vol. 3 Tour (2023) – A global tour spanning Latin America, the U.S., and Europe, selling out arenas worldwide.
• Cerrando Ciclos Tour (2024-2025) – Aventura’s highly anticipated reunion tour, culminating in the Dominican Republic.
Now, Joel is launching his own project as a music producer, bringing a fresh sound to bachata by infusing it with R&B, funk, and a mellow vibe. With his innovative approach, he’s redefining the genre while staying true to its essence.
Merengue
After bachata, merengue is definitely one of Joel's favorite genres.
Joel gives merengue lessons both on his YouTube channel "Dominicanpiano" and live, using the keyboard as a musical instrument.
Joel has collaborated with important artists, such as: Ramon Orlando, Henry Jimenez, Dary Contreas, Dioni Fernandez and Juan Valdez, known as the "virtuosos of merengue", with whom he created the musical piece "Manos del Merengue" (2020).
Music Producer - New Projects
Now that tours around the world are temporarily on hold, Joel is dedicating himself to producing new music. The first song, a bachata, was released on January 17 and is called “Mala Fama”. Designed to set the dance floors on fire, it has already had a more than positive response from the public.
The second track, "Si Te Vas", another bachata, was released on March 28. This time, Joel collaborates with the talented Venezuelan singer Andree Galez, who has stood out as an emerging artist at the Viña del Mar Festival. The song features an immersive sound that blends synthesizers, a passionate performance, and an unexpected ending with a vocoder, an uncommon element in bachata that adds a futuristic yet nostalgic touch.
The third release, “Inseparables”, came out on October 28, in collaboration with EmmaKings, a young Dominican singer known for his participation in The Voice. This time Joel explores a different side of his artistry. “Inseparables” moves away from bachata to embrace an intimate acoustic style, just voice and guitar, highlighting emotion and simplicity over production.
