Biography

Dr. Joanna Lindström is a post-doctoral researcher based at the Department of Psychology, Uppsala University, Sweden (in collaboration with the Center for Research in Extremism, University of Oslo).  Her ongoing research is funded by a grant from the Swedish Research Council. She recently completed her PhD in Psychology at Stockholm University. In her doctoral dissertation she integrated personality and social psychological factors to explain endorsement of violent extremism and group-based violence.

In her research, Joanna examines the psychological underpinnings of violent extremism, and she is also interested in studying intergroup conflict and intergroup relations more generally.

Joanna's research on the underpinnings of violent extremism has received widespread national and international media coverage. In Sweden, her research has been featured in many national news outlets including Nyhetsmorgon, Dagens Nyheter, P4, and Svenska Dagbladet. Internationally, her research has been featured in news channels such as Homeland Security Newswire, and Foreign Affairs.

Joanna holds a BScience (Psychology, with first class honours), and a BArts (Development Studies) from the Australian National University, and a MScience (Psychology) from Stockholm University.
