Philosophical Intersections

Research and Teaching Interests

My research interests lie at the intersections of the continental European and analytic traditions in 20th century Western philosophy. They are focused more specifically on philosophical areas such as phenomenology, existentialism, philosophical hermeneutics, philosophy of the social sciences, social ontology, philosophy of race and gender, and critical social philosophy. I also have teaching interests in normative and applied ethics (from a multicultural perspective), the history of 17th through 19th century Western philosophy, Chinese philosophy, and the debate of determinism versus free will.

Education and Teaching Experience

I earned my doctorate in philosophy in the USA at the University of Pittsburgh and my bachelor of arts in philosophy at Wesleyan University. In chronological order, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), Dickinson College (Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA), Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, New York, USA), Mount Holyoke College (South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA), Grinnell College (Grinnell, Iowa, USA), and the College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, Virginia, USA). I was thereafter a visiting scholar affiliated with the Departments of Philosophy and Political Science at Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, USA). I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Focused Inquiry at Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, Virginia, USA).
