The Shema contains a passage instructing us to remember the

commandments and “teach them diligently to your children.” At Congregation B’nai Sholom – Beth David, that responsibility is carried out by our Jewish Learning Center (JLC), which offers programs for children from pre-K – Grade 12.

We believe Jewish learning is about more than preparing children to become Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Because transmitting Jewish heritage, beliefs and practices from generation to generation is of such great importance, in-person JLC classes are tuition-free for children of our members only. We offer a virtual Hebrew school program via ZOOM for non-member families for a tuition cost. Please see the Virtual JLC page for more information.

We welcome families from all backgrounds, denominations and religious upbringings. In addition, we involve parents in Jewish learning through Family Education programs.

The JLC curriculum combines instruction in prayer, Hebrew literature and language, the Bible, Jewish history, Jewish holidays, and lessons on the Holocaust. Students receive a high-quality, differentiated education in a departmentalized setting that meets the needs of all learners.

Our pre-K – Grade 1 classes meet from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays. Grades 2 – 7 meet from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. – 12 noon Sundays. Holding class two days a week rather than three is a great convenience for busy parents.
