• JLab JBuds Air Sport — biggest strength: an IP66 sweat-resistant build with secure earhooks, 6 hours per earbud, a 34+ hour charging case and Be Aware Audio for safe outdoor running.
• JLab JBuds Air Sport — biggest trade-off: it's a sport-first design with a bulky earhook look and a case sized around the gym bag, not the pocket.
• Sakar — biggest strength: active noise cancellation, a lightweight in-ear bud shape and a Sonic the Hedgehog theme that stands out from every generic black earbud.
• Sakar — biggest trade-off: shorter stamina (5 hours per charge, two case recharges) and no water or dust resistance rating.
• Pick JLab JBuds Air Sport if you train, sweat hard, run outdoors and want the earbuds to stay put.
• Pick Sakar if you want noise cancelling for the commute, casual music, calls and gaming, and you like the character styling.
The JBuds Air Sport is built around one idea: staying in your ears while you move. The ergonomic earhook is the giveaway. It hooks over the top of your ear instead of relying only on a silicone tip, which is why JLab says it fits even small ears and stays secure. If you've ever had a bud pop out mid-sprint, that hook is the whole pitch. The IP66 rating backs it up — that's protection against sweat and dust, so the gym, the trail and a drizzly run are all fair game. JLab also includes a set of Cloud Foam tips you can swap in for the standard gel tips.
Battery is the second thing this model does well. Each earbud runs about 6 hours, and the case adds 34+ hours on top, recharging through an integrated cable built into the case itself. That integrated cable is a small but genuinely useful detail — you're not hunting for a loose USB cord in a bag. Bluetooth 5 handles the connection, and the buds auto power on and pair with each other the moment you lift them out. Calls go through in stereo, so you hear the other person in both ears rather than one.
Who should skip it? Anyone who mostly listens at a desk, wants the smallest possible case, or is buying purely for style. The earhook design is functional, not discreet, and the hard-shell case measures roughly 3.5 x 2 x 1.5 inches. That's a bag item, not a coin-pocket item. And there's no active noise cancelling here — JLab's approach is the opposite, letting sound in on purpose.
Sakar: Who It's For
The Sakar Sonic ANC TWS Earbuds go after a different buyer entirely. The headline feature is active noise cancellation. Instead of sealing your ear and hoping, these actively cut down surrounding noise, which makes them a natural fit for a bus, a train, a shared office or a loud house. The bud shape is a standard in-ear design — no earhook — so they sit like typical everyday earbuds and stay out of the way under a hat or helmet strap.
The theme is the other half of the story. These are Sonic the Hedgehog earbuds, blue, with a bold character styling. Sakar is aiming at fans and collectors as much as at people shopping purely on specs, and that's a legitimate reason to buy a product. If you want earbuds that don't look like the black pair everyone else on the train is wearing, this is the point of the design.
On stamina, Sakar is more modest. Each earbud gives up to 5 hours of playtime, and the charging case holds two full recharges — so roughly 15 hours of total listening before you need a wall outlet. The Bluetooth range is rated to about 30 feet, or 9 meters, which is plenty for walking around a room or leaving your phone on a bench at the gym. Charging takes about 5 hours, so this is a charge-overnight pair rather than a top-up-in-ten-minutes pair. Touch controls handle playback and calls, and the driver is a dynamic type with the same 20Hz–20kHz range as the JLab.
The honest trade-offs: there's no IP rating on the spec sheet, so I wouldn't treat these as sweat-proof or rain-proof. And the charging time is on the slow side. If your main use is hard training in bad weather, that's a real mismatch.
Who should buy them? Commuters, students, gamers and Sonic fans who want noise cancelling, a light in-ear fit and a look with personality. Who should skip? Runners, gym-goers who sweat heavily, and anyone who needs all-day battery from a single charge.
• Best for sweat and weather → JLab JBuds Air Sport. IP66 sweat and dust resistance versus no IP rating on the Sakar.
• Best for secure fit during movement → JLab JBuds Air Sport. The earhook design is made to stay put; the Sakar uses a conventional bud shape.
• Best for noise cancelling → Sakar. Active Noise Cancellation is a listed feature; the JLab instead offers Be Aware Audio to let sound in.
• Best for total battery → JLab JBuds Air Sport. 6 hours per earbud plus 34+ hours in the case, against 5 hours plus two case recharges on the Sakar.
• Best for faster recharging → JLab JBuds Air Sport. About 2 hours to charge versus roughly 5 hours for the Sakar.
• Best for on-the-go charging convenience → JLab JBuds Air Sport. The case has an integrated cable, so there's no separate cord to carry.
• Best for sound tuning without an app → JLab JBuds Air Sport. Three EQ presets — Signature, Balanced, Bass Boost — switchable from the earbuds.
• Best for style and fandom → Sakar. The Sonic the Hedgehog theme is the reason to pick these over a plain set.
• Best for safe outdoor running → JLab JBuds Air Sport. Be Aware Audio lets ambient noise through on purpose.
I'd buy the JLab JBuds Air Sport. In my opinion, it's the more complete package for the money question you're actually asking: it survives sweat, it stays in your ears, it lasts far longer between charges, and it recharges faster with a cable that's already attached to the case. The EQ presets and Be Aware Audio give it flexibility the Sakar can't match.
The Sakar earns its place if active noise cancelling and the Sonic styling are what you're after — that's a real preference and I won't argue with it. But as an all-round pair of earbuds for training, commuting and everyday listening, the JLab covers more ground. Check the current price on Amazon for both before you commit, since that's the one variable that can flip this call.
For sport and battery life, yes in my opinion — IP66 protection, 6 hours per bud, 34+ case hours and a 2-hour charge time beat the Sakar's 5 hours, two case recharges and 5-hour charge time. The Sakar wins on active noise cancelling and styling.
Yes. Active Noise Cancellation is listed as a feature. The JLab JBuds Air Sport does not have ANC — it uses Be Aware Audio to let surrounding sound in for safer outdoor listening.
The IP66 rating covers sweat and dust, so gym sessions and light rain are within its design intent. The Sakar spec sheet lists no water or dust resistance, so I'd keep those dry.
JLab: about 6 hours per earbud, plus 34+ hours from the case, charging in roughly 2 hours. Sakar: up to 5 hours per earbud, with the case holding two full recharges and a charge time of about 5 hours.
