If you want true wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation and a battery life that lasts for days, choose JLab Epic Air Sport; if you need lightweight on-ear headphones designed for all-day comfort and seamless multi-device pairing, choose Sony WH-CH520.
• JLab Epic Air Sport: Delivers an impressive 70+ hours of total playtime and includes Active Noise Cancellation, but the in-ear design requires a secure fit to block out gym noise effectively. Best for serious athletes and DJs who need isolation and portability.
• Sony WH-CH520: Offers superior comfort with soft earpads and a swivel design for travel, though it lacks active noise cancellation and relies on passive isolation. Best for casual listeners and DJs who prioritize long sessions without ear fatigue.
• Both options feature Bluetooth 5 connectivity and touch controls, yet they solve completely different problems regarding form factor and environmental control.
The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC is built for people who refuse to be tethered to a wall outlet or burdened by dead batteries mid-workout. If your daily routine involves high-intensity training, running outdoors, or managing audio equipment in noisy environments, this earbud system is engineered specifically for that chaos. The defining feature here is the sheer endurance of the battery. You get over 15 hours of continuous playback from a single charge in each bud, and the charging case adds another 55 hours on top of that. That is a staggering 70+ hours of total Bluetooth playtime. Even if you turn on the Smart Active Noise Cancellation to tune out the clatter of a gym or the traffic of a city street, you still pull in over 50 hours of listening time. This means you can go weeks without needing to plug into a USB-A port or find a wireless charging pad.
For a DJ looking for the best sports earbuds for their craft, the Epic Air Sport offers a level of independence that over-ear headphones simply cannot match. The inclusion of six microphones working together to cancel noise while providing clear call quality via C3 Calling technology ensures that you stay connected even when the environment gets loud. The "Be Aware" mode allows you to let ambient sound in when you need to hear your surroundings, which is critical for safety during outdoor runs or when monitoring a live set in a crowded venue. The IP66 sweatproof rating guarantees that these buds will survive the most grueling workouts, protecting the internal electronics from moisture and dirt.

However, this product isn't for everyone. If you prefer the open-air feeling of over-ear cans or dislike the sensation of something inside your ear canal, these angled in-ear buds might feel intrusive after several hours. The reliance on touch sensors means you have to be precise with your gestures, and while the Wear Detect Sensor automatically pauses music when you remove a bud, the in-ear seal required for the best bass response and noise isolation can sometimes lead to discomfort for users with smaller ear canals. You also need to commit to the specific fit of the included ear cushions to get the full benefit of the frequency response range, which extends up to 20 KHz. If you are looking for a headphone that sits lightly on your head rather than sealing your ear canal, this might not be the right tool for the job.
The Sony WH-CH520 targets the user who values comfort and simplicity above all else. These on-ear headphones are designed with a focus on lightweight construction, featuring soft earpads and additional head cushioning that make them suitable for wearing throughout the entire workday. At 310 grams, they are light enough that you often forget you are wearing them, yet sturdy enough to handle daily commutes and travel. The swivel design allows the earcups to fold flat, making them incredibly compact for slipping into a bag or backpack. If you are a DJ who needs to wear headphones for extended periods while mixing or monitoring, the on-ear placement provides a balance between portability and the ability to keep one ear open to the room, though without active noise cancellation, you will rely on passive isolation.
Battery life remains a strong suit for Sony here as well. You get up to 50 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, which is more than enough for a week of heavy use. A standout feature for travelers and busy professionals is the quick charging capability; just three minutes of charging via the USB Type-C port gives you 90 minutes of playback. This is ideal for those times when you forget to charge overnight but need to jump on a call or listen to a podcast immediately. The ability to pair with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously is another major advantage. You can connect to your laptop for work and your phone for calls at the same time, switching seamlessly without having to disconnect and reconnect.
That said, the lack of Active Noise Cancellation is a significant trade-off if you plan to use these in very noisy environments like a crowded subway or a loud studio. The noise control settings are limited to none, meaning you are relying entirely on the physical seal of the earpads to dampen external sound. While the Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize the EQ to match your genre preferences, the hardware itself does not include the advanced microphone array found in the JLab for active cancellation. Additionally, the on-ear design can sometimes cause pressure on the ears after many hours compared to the circumaural designs that fully enclose the ear. If you are looking for the best noise cancelling clip on earbuds for dj work where isolation is paramount, these headphones might leave you wanting more silence. However, for general listening, commuting, and casual DJing where comfort is king, they are hard to beat.

In my opinion, I would buy the JLab Epic Air Sport for any scenario involving movement, noise, or strict time constraints. The combination of true active noise cancellation and a battery life that feels virtually infinite makes it the superior choice for a DJ who needs to monitor tracks in a loud environment without being distracted by background chatter. The ability to switch between ANC, Off, and Be Aware modes gives me the control I need to transition from a quiet studio to a bustling gym without missing a beat. While the Sony WH-CH520 is a comfortable companion for office work, the JLab Epic Air Sport is the better tool for someone who needs reliable performance under pressure.
Yes, the JLab Epic Air Sport stands out as a top choice for DJs who need to move around because its Active Noise Cancellation isolates audio cues and its 70-hour battery prevents interruptions during long sets.
No, the Sony WH-CH520 does not feature Active Noise Cancellation; it relies on passive isolation from the earpad material to reduce external sound, so it is not ideal for very loud environments.
The JLab Epic Air Sport offers a longer total lifespan of over 70 hours including the case, whereas the Sony WH-CH520 provides up to 50 hours of continuous playback from the headphones alone.
While the Sony WH-CH520 is an on-ear headphone, it lacks the active noise cancellation needed for professional DJ monitoring, making the JLab Epic Air Sport the better option for that specific use case.
