Chinese Yo-Yo (Diabolo) Program
The Chinese yo-yo, or diabolo, is a traditional folk toy in ancient Chinese culture. During festivals, temple fairs, and celebratory events, the buzzing sound of spinning diabolos could be heard throughout the streets and alleys. Classic diabolo tricks include “Golden Rooster on the Stand,” “Ant Climbing a Tree,” “Wild Goose Landing on the Sand,” “Cicada Shedding Its Shell,” “Roc Spreading Its Wings,” “Soaring into the Sky,” “Golden Rooster Flying Across the River,” “Stargazing,” “Golden Dragon Wrapping the Jade Pillar,” “Centrifugal Spinning,” “Two Immortals Spreading the Way,” and many more creative and entertaining variations.
Since Minguo Year 74 (1985), our school has actively promoted a Chinese Yo-Yo Performance Team, which has participated in various performances and exhibitions over the years and has received high praise from all sectors. The team has been coached with unwavering dedication by Mr. Chen Shih-Chou, Mr. Chuang Chao-Chih, and Mr. Tsai Yu-Ming, whose tireless efforts have made great contributions to the preservation and promotion of this cultural folk art.
It is also worth mentioning that Mr. Weng Wen-Hsien, an alumnus residing in Taiwan, generously donates NT$20,000 annually as the "Zhide" Scholarship, along with 50 sets of sportswear, to reward outstanding students in the diabolo program. His support and encouragement are deeply appreciated and serve as a great source of motivation for the team.
Table Tennis
Jinding Elementary School has always placed great emphasis on physical education. Whether in track and field or ball sports, students have consistently delivered strong performances. Among all athletic activities, table tennis stands out as the school’s most distinguished sport.
Thanks to the steadfast support of successive principals and the dedicated coaching of Mr. Li Chu-Chiang, the school’s table tennis team has achieved outstanding results. In the Kinmen Inter-School Table Tennis Championships, our students have repeatedly won championships in both boys’ and girls’ team events, as well as top placements in singles—including champion, runner-up, third place, fourth place, and merit awards—as well as in doubles events.
Badminton
In addition to table tennis, badminton is another key focus of sports activities at Jinding Elementary School. Under the guidance of dedicated coaches and teachers, the school’s badminton team has also demonstrated excellent performance. In recent years, students have achieved impressive results in the Kinmen Inter-School Badminton Championships.
Traditional Gong and Drum Ensemble
The Gong and Drum Ensemble is a form of traditional Chinese folk instrumental art and was once a popular recreational activity in local communities. In recent years, however, it has shown signs of decline. To preserve this valuable cultural heritage, Jinding Elementary School applied for a special grant from the Ministry of Education in Minguo Year 81 (1992). The school invited local master artist Mr. Chen Wei-Shih to lead and instruct students in this traditional art form.
Thanks to these efforts, the ensemble has been actively promoted on campus and has gained strong support from both students and parents. The group has frequently participated in community festivals and celebrations, receiving widespread acclaim.
The main performance routines include: Stage Formation, Noisy Stage Acts such as Four-Head Beats, Slow Battle, Cross-Gong, Crown Ceremony Performance, and others.
The basic instruments used include: Small Drum, Barrel Drum, Gong, Large Cymbals, Small Cymbals, Small Gong, and Wooden Fish (Clapper Board).
