I am not a sport enthuenthusiast, and I have not played many sports other than badminton in school.
Around November in 2022, I was told that we were going back to Taiwan, and we haven’t done that for over 2 years. I know I am bad at sports, and I know I don’t like sports in general. However, there is one sport which I am also bad at but I like to try more, table tennis. I feel like I should try out more sports.
My family booked a table tennis area for 2 hours in an indoor stadium as we were preparing to go back. We went to play after a few days of arrival, and there, I began my first hour of struggle.
I never play table tennis in a competitive way, especially with my family members, and I don’t take it seriously either. I played in a casual way, just trying to let the ball stay on the table and reaching a good pace of balance with my “opponent”. However, it’s been over 3 years since I have played table tennis. I didn’t even know how to grab the table tennis bat, it took me around 30 minutes to get used to playing it, but my “opponents” don’t cooperate with me well. Most of the time we were just picking up the ball rather than playing. So I called the best partner in the group: My dad.
Our game was way better, we kept the ball on the table the whole time, with rhythm, and it’s easier to know the movement of the ball. I found out that I am hyper focused when I am playing, my eyesight never leaves the orange sphere.
We were extremely tired at the end. Although it’s winter, we were soaked in sweat. I am glad that I get to exercise what I enjoy doing again. And through this activity, I learned the importance of developing skills and teamwork, it results in good cooperation and success.
