Why Jimmy Albarran
Because Jim has taken a personal interest in helping taxpayers resolve problems. Jim takes extra time to explain issues to taxpayers and Jim has been known to walk with taxpayers to other offices to quickly isolate problems and coordinate a resolution. Another example of this, Jim has taken personal time on weekends to contact nonprofits that were not aware they had properties scheduled for tax sale. Jim felt personal visits were necessary because the legal notifications were not reaching these organizations.
Because Jim has a plan. Knowing the issues, Jim has a keen understanding of some of the next improvements needed to make county government work better. Some of these are not directly within the authority of the Treasurer, but require the Treasurer to work with other officials to implement.
Because Jim has on the Job Experience
Jimmy has worked as the Chief Deputy Treasurer since November 2015 and has on the job experience to be elected the next Treasurer of Porter County. He has worked on:
Customer / Taxpayer Assistance. Jim has worked hard to help taxpayers understand their tax bills and find solutions.
Standardization. Jim has standardized and documented back offices processes for accuracy, clarity, simplicity, and reporting.
Automation. Jim has automated data access and reporting through spreadsheet automation, in house SQL and batch scripts, and through working with vendors to implement software improvements. The department has benefited from having someone with an IT and database background.
Implementation. Jim was essential in the implementation of the county's new financial system in 2018 coordinating with the Auditor's office so that new software was properly set up to accurately handle fund accounting between the two offices.
Compliance. Jim has a tax compliance background and upon working with the county quickly found compliance issues related to bankruptcy accounts. He has since learned and documented much of the legal requirements of the County Treasurer's Office. He is ready to hit the ground running as Treasurer.
