Jaehwan Hyun is an associate professor in the History of Science at Pusan National University. He has widely published on the modern and contemporary history of Korea and Japan, focusing on the roles of scientific, technical, and social intermediaries in the transnational circulation of knowledge and artifacts. Currently, he is working on three main projects:

1. The transnational histories of genetics and anthropology in South Korea and Japan, particularly within the framework of "racial science."

2. The transnational histories of nature conservation and conservation science (including ornithology) in South Korea and Japan.

3. The transnational history of Zainichi (Koreans residing in Japan) scientists and engineers.

The latter two projects are approached from the perspective of "science diplomacy." Jaehwan has also authored papers and edited books on the history of eugenics in South Korea, the East Asian history of face masks, and gender in the East Asian history of science, technology, and medicine. His work aims to challenge standard periodization and geographical boundaries by adopting a trans-war and trans-Asian perspective.
