Steve Cohen, David Stearns, and the Mets are not done making moves as now they re-sign Pitcher Sean Manaea. ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the deal is for 3 years, $75 million.
Manaea came into the off-season as one of two Mets' aces hitting free agency, with his counterpart Luis Severino signing a 3-year deal with the Athletics.
Manaea had a career resurgence during the 2024 season, posting a 3.47 earned run average for the entire campaign with the Mets. He was also crucial to the Mets improbable deep playoff run, allowing 10 runs over 17 innings, which included 7 innings of one-run ball against the NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series, which saw the Mets upset the Phillies in 4 games.
This will continue with Manaea's stint with New York after playing for three teams over his first eight seasons: the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres.
The Mets continue to bolster their team to compete again in 2025, already top free agent Juan Soto to a record breaking 15-year, $765 million contract earlier this off-season. The Mets have also added pitchers Clay Holmes, Frankie Montas, and Griffin Canning in the open market, while trading for OF Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays.
