IT DAY is a school event where IT learners and prospective IT learners are invited for the purpose of encouraging learners to choose IT as a subject, to encourage those who are struggling with the subject to be persistent, to present topics related to the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in South Africa and in the world, as well as to discuss current trends in ICTs.
IT Day started in 2017 with the first Grade 12 group. The event was organised as a surprise farewell and motivation for the Grade 12s. Since they were the first group of IT learners to matriculate at the school, we needed to motivate them to do their level best because it was upon their hands that create a benchmark for others to follow. The event was only attended by IT learners, the Educator, Heads of Department and the school Principal.
In 2019, we reinvented the IT DAY to include Computer Science career guidance. Grade 9 learners are invited to attend this event to get to know about Information Technology, how Information Technology is administered at Jane Furse Comprehensive, and what are the benefits and the challenges of choosing Information Technology as a subject in the FET (Further Education and Training) band.
IT Learners are given the opportunity to present topics and projects during the event.
