Residency at the Gaité Lyrique, February 2018
Overview
This residence marks an initial phase of the project, "Jeux Symphoniques". This project targets the creation of a musical work that operates in two live performance spaces, in Montreal and Paris respectively, which are augmented and connected by a virtual layer of audiovisual 3D objects. The use of a bi-directional network streaming provides for music coordination and the synchronization of audiovisual 3D content pertaining to each performance spaces. The music of the overall performance capitalizes on the distances / time separating the two performance ensembles, taking the form of double cannon of sorts, in which, live musicians in each location are accompanied by remote musicians playing thousands of miles away.
Residency Goals
Validate SCENIC
Bidirectional streaming: [16 channel audio plus 1 video ] X 2
Musical synchronization : system-wide fixed delays (using BPM and musical beat units) for stream offsetting.
Exploration and creation of audiovisual renderings that work well with the musical form.
Music Creation
Exploration of multi-voice cannon forms that operate with location specific “perspectives” (score position of local ensemble with respect to the score position of accompanying remote ensemble).
Musical Synchronisation and streaming tests from Montreal to Paris,
using the SCENIC network-based audiovisual transport system, developed at the Societé des Arts Technologiques (La SAT).
