2. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED & WHY THEY ARE NEEDED

To provide seamless browser-based writing, email drafting, and web page assistance, JetScribe AI requests only the following minimal permissions:
1. "storage"
• Purpose: Used exclusively to save your extension preferences (e.g., selected writing tone, toggle settings for the in-page pill, your name/role for email signatures, and your optional personal API key if using Bring-Your-Own-Key).
• Scope: Data remains strictly on your local computer via chrome.storage.local.
2. "contextMenus"
• Purpose: Creates convenient right-click options in Chrome ("Fix Grammar", "Summarize Selection", "Generate Email Reply") so you can trigger AI actions directly on highlighted text without opening the extension popup.
3. Host Permissions: "<all_urls>"
• Purpose: Allows the extension's helper scripts (the floating selection pill, in-page draggable modal, and the native Gmail/Outlook compose button) to run across the websites where you write and read (Gmail, Outlook, LinkedIn, Slack Web, news articles, documentation sites).

3. ARE ALL THESE PERMISSIONS TRULY NECESSARY? (AUDIT RESULTS)

We conducted a strict audit of all extension permissions to minimize security and privacy footprint:
• Were "scripting", "activeTab", and "clipboardWrite" removed?
YES. They were removed because:
- "clipboardWrite": Modern browsers allow copying text to clipboard via user-click events without requiring broad clipboard permissions.
- "activeTab": Fully redundant because "<all_urls>" is already used for content scripts.
- "scripting": Content scripts are automatically loaded via manifest declaration, making the powerful "scripting" API unnecessary.
• Can "<all_urls>" be further reduced?
If restricted to a single site, JetScribe AI would not work when you browse Gmail, Outlook, LinkedIn, or different article sites. Because users write and summarize across multiple web platforms, host permissions are required for the content script to function where you work.
• Can "storage" and "contextMenus" be removed?
No. Without "storage", your preferences and chosen AI models would be lost every time you close Chrome. Without "contextMenus", right-click actions on highlighted text would be impossible.
Conclusion: Only 2 minimal Chrome permissions ("storage", "contextMenus") and host access are requested. All excess permissions have been completely eliminated.

4. THIRD-PARTY AI SERVICES & USER-OWNED API KEYS
