Hello! My name is Jessica Afalla.
I am an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, at the University of Tsukuba.
I develop and utilize optical and terahertz spectroscopy to characterize interesting materials such as semiconductors, nanostructures, and sometimes organic nanocomposites. The goal is to understand carrier dynamics - where and how fast charge carriers move in a material. This determines the compatibility of a specifically designed material to its target application.
Keywords: carrier dynamics, terahertz, pump-probe spectroscopy, GaAs, semiconductors, photoconductivity, ultrafast
UPDATE:
2023/09/30 Dr. Afalla has retired from the University of Tsukuba and is taking a career break. :) Thank you very much for your support!

On March 2021 we completed a small THz time domain spectrometer at the Ultrafast Science Lab, using a fast-scan system. Shown on the left is the first THz pulse measured. Still a lot of things to be done, but the new academic year is off to a good start!
