Meet Mrs. Smoak

Mrs. Jessica Smoak - Media Specialist

Welcome! My name is Jessica Smoak. I was born and raised in North Carolina, but I now live in South Carolina with my husband. I received my BS from Western Carolina University and my M.Ed from Grand Canyon University. After teaching at the elementary level for fifteen years, I became our school librarian. I obtained my Masters degree in Library and Information Science from USC Columbia. I just completed my fourth year as a Media Specialist and my nineteenth year in education.

I love reading a variety of genres. Some of my favorite authors include Andrew Clements, James Patterson, Raina Telgemeier, and J.K Rowling, just to name a few. I truly enjoy helping students find books that meet their interests, promoting safe use of technology, and promoting research and inquiry skills. I also love working with my fellow teachers to aid them with their students, books, and technology needs. I am a member of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL), and currently serve on the Children's Book Award Committee.

According to the American Association of School Librarians, School librarians empower students to Think, Create, Share, and Grow in the school library as they learn to harness curiosity, model responsibility, inspire exploration, promote creativity, and deepen understanding. School libraries create equity and prepare all learners for college, career, and life.
