Jellyfish Nft

Jellyfish are very ancient animals, they have lived in our oceans for hundreds of millions of years

Jellyfish fossils have been found dating back more than 550 million years ago ( Cambrian period ), 250 million years before dinosaurs appeared on earth.

Cnidarians represent an early diverging animal group and thus insight into their origin and diversification is key to understanding metazoan evolution. Further, cnidarian jellyfish comprise an important component of modern marine planktonic ecosystems.

Here we report on exceptionally preserved cnidarian jellyfish fossils from the Middle Cambrian (∼505 million years old) Marjum Formation of Utah.

These are the first described Cambrian jellyfish fossils to display exquisite preservation of soft part anatomy including detailed features of structures interpreted as trailing tentacles and subumbrellar and exumbrellar surfaces.

Middle Cambrian cnidarian jellyfish in oblique subumbrellar view possibly referable to the family Narcomedusae, class Hydrozoa.

Middle Cambrian cnidarian jellyfish in subumbrellar view possibly referable to the order Semaeostomeae, class Scyphozoa.

Middle Cambrian cnidarian jellyfish in lateral view possibly referable to the order Semaeostomeae, class Scyphozoa.

Some of them are considered eternal animals, being able to transform themselves from jellyfish to polyps, in an eternal life cycle.

When man and all other animals will be extinct on earth, jellyfish will be the only living beings that will populate our planet and, perhaps, will also learn to fly, living not only in the water but also in the air.

And when jellyfish sleep, they often dream of music .....
