Interpretive Center
The Hayward shoreline is a mosaic of different landscapes which extends across nearly seven miles of dikes and trails adjacent to the San Francisco Bay. The shoreline trail is part of the San Francisco Bay Trail and passes through and around mud flats, salt marsh, grasslands, and salt evaporation ponds.
Perched on stilts above a salt marsh, the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center is your introduction to the ecology of the San Francisco Bay Estuary. It features exhibits, programs, and activities designed to inspire a sense of appreciation, respect, and stewardship for the bay, for its inhabitants, and for the services they provide.
The Interpretive Center is currently open on Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Tuesdays through Fridays by appointment only. An audio tour is available for free checkout at the front desk and Discovery Packs are available for self-guided activities. The center offers summer camps and programs for kids and scouting troops as well as for adults. The facility is even available for rental for birthday parties
