Lighting Designer + Electrician + Stage Technician
Lighting Designer + Electrician + Stage Technician
Hello! I'm Jean Lau (he/they/she) and I am a multi-disciplinary artist with a focus in stage lighting design. Currently I am based in The Bay Area.
My first foray into the World of Theatre was on the performance side, as I did acting in high school, and enjoyed it very much. These experiences instilled in my mind many valuable lessons on teamwork and creativity, and have been a core part of my philosophy ever since, serving me very well in all aspects of life.
College (at Santa Clara University, Class of 2024) is where I began exploring the tech side. With access to personal mentorship plus many hours of hands-on training, I found myself deeply immersed in lighting, especially for our dance showcases which allowed me to explore color, mood, movement, form, timing, rhythm, and musicality.
With how swiftly I was able to pick up programming techniques, and with how lighting design was the perfect intersection of my array of interests, I decided to continue on this path, working as a live events technician, electrician, and lighting designer.
There is something immensely satisfying about having highly specific technical knowledge and the ability to take an imaginary vision and implement it in the realm of physical reality. And to collaborate with artisans of a wide variety of fields is such a wonderful and satisfying way of creation, I love it very much!
I hope you find something useful from my work, and I thank you for stopping by. ^^
