This course is an introduction to statistics and data analysis. It covers the following: reasons for doing Statistics, collection, summarization, and presentation of data, basic concepts in probability, point and interval estimation, and hypothesis testing.
At the end of the trimester, the students will produce a statistical report of a provided research data.
Demonstrate knowledge of the basic terms, concepts, and procedures in statistics;
Use appropriate methods of data collection and presentation;
Summarize data using different numerical measures;
Apply rules of probability in handling probability sampling distributions*;
Make inferences about the mean and proportion of one and two populations using sample information through estimation and hypothesis testing;
Investigate linear relationship between two variables by measuring the strength of association and obtaining a regression equation to describe the relationship;
Analyze data resulting from the conduct of experiments; and,
Guard against misuses of statistics.
