Graduate Exhibition
The intention of the exhibition as a cohesive action is to facilitate a type of domestic experience that acknowledges and offers provision for the physical and interdependent care needs of participants. Due to the catastrophic change in the form of relocation to Colorado College, students have lost a sense of "home" and "belonging" with our former residency experience in Montpelier. This work is an acknowledgement of the value of connection and care. It is a type of "world within a world" in our new not-yet-home in Colorado.
Creation of a living-room space within the gallery setting. Local furniture rental is planned and a kitchen has been secured directly off the gallery space for the provision of food and drink for all of the graduating students during exhibition hanging (with a nod to Rirkrit Tiravanija's Untitled (Free) at 303 Gallery in New York, 1992) as well as for visitors/participants once the exhibition is open mid-residency (with a nod to Tom Marioni's Free Beer, 1970-1979).
Set-up plinths with free and available care objects in each of the restrooms adjacent to the exhibition space including: bandages, oral hygiene products, menstrual care products, pain reliever, personal hygiene products, safety pins, sewing kit, chewing gum/mints, antacid, scissors.
Provision of refreshments for another graduating student's fashion show.
Co-facilitation/collaboration with members of graduating cohort of arrangements for community-wide celebration (dance party).
Furthermore, specific details of work and ongoing performative actions to be finalized with the publishing of our residency schedule which has not yet happened at the time of this writing. The anticipated availability of participants is approximately one hour intervals interspersed with very little frequency throughout the week. However, college programming typically concludes at nine o'clock in the evening, making late-night events possible and desirable.
Planned activities may include: Community Building Circle, based on the Restorative Practice model. Including Ubuntu cards/questions and icebreaker activities to create a shared experience and facilitate discussion. This may also be a less formal facilitated event such as game night, card tricks, poetry reading, baking or curated conversation.
Reserved times for provision of car-rides or the running of errands for students into Colorado Springs.
