Javier Mombiela
GAME DESIGNER
My passion for art, technology and videogames reaches as far as my memory can reach. So, acquiring the knowledge to be able to translate concepts and ideas into reality is what moved me to dedicate my studies and career on arts and Game Design.
In my day-to-day life as a game designer, what drives me is to keep learning and growing, while trying to explore and leverage the potential of video games to tell, to transform and to deliver experiences to the players.
My professional experience began at Nuclear Toaster First Person Rogue-Like Shooter Deathroned where I worked on the design and prototyping of combat and gameplay mechanics. Then, I joined Ubisoft Reflections where I worked as a Game Designer on Assassins Creed Nexus VR and Splinter Cell VR for the Oculus platform. Following my work experience abroad, I worked as an Associate Game Design Director at Digital Sun Games on Cataclismo.
Currently, I combine my work as Lead Game Desginer along with the management and teaching at Binomio, a game design academy located at Bilbao.

It has been an immense pleasure working with Javier. He is not only a talented and dedicated professional but also an incredibly collaborative and positive colleague.
I had the privilege of working with him for several years on Cataclismo, and his impact was particularly significant when he took on the design direction during the final months before our 1.0 launch.
Without Javier's leadership and creative contributions, it is clear to me that the game would not have achieved the success it has. I wholeheartedly recommend him.
Game Producer
I was very fortunate to work with Javier making Deathroned, our Capstone Project of U-tad's Master's Degrees of Video Games, at Nuclear Toaster Studios. It was a privilege to have him in the team as a game designer, as he dramatically impacted the quality of our very first video game.
Javier is one of the most committed and hardworking people I have ever worked with. He is one of those rare people who you can unconditionally trust, because he would never abandon his teammates in the midst of difficulty or incredibly hard work. From the project's first days until its conclusion, Javier vastly and consistently exceeded the team's expectations with his excellent work. In fact, he managed to have the whole team gathered around his computer in many occasions, just because his work is so incredibly good that we had to watch it again and again.
I will share just a few examples of Javier's great work. The UI and HUD he designed for Deathroned just border on top professional quality. The very same could be said about his contributions during every stage of the game design process, idea generation, and documentation. The hectic, action-packed trailers he crafted to represent Deathroned inside and outside U-tad were so astonishing they made every single person who watched them feel immediately excited and interested in our game. On top of that, Javier is an excellent communicator who has a wealth of great ideas boiling inside his head, waiting to be clearly shared with the team. And he is a genuinely good person who just wants the best for every teammate he works with.
I am convinced that Javier will become one of the key members in any game development team he joins. With him in the team, you are closer to releasing an incredible game!
