Building Connections/Relationships

May 17, 2019

The connections and relationships we've been able to make over the years have truly made owning a local business all worth it. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve and become a better coffee and tea shop. We do not have it all figured out, but the relationships we have with other business owners, professionals and our customers (who are also business owners, professionals, students, wonderful hattiesburgers) keep us going.

We want to take out the time to thank everyone who has given us a review (or multiple reviews) on Google, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms. Our mission is to provide the best service and products to our one-of-a-kind customers, and we strive to do just that! Your dedication and support has given us light at the end of many tunnels, and we are forever grateful for the relationship we have with the Java Werks Squad!

Below are three tips we use to help us build connections/relationships with customers, business partners or even new friends.

Tip #1. Find commonalities

Tip #2. Exchange relevant information

Tip #3. Communicate

If you have difficulty building relationships (or if you need a little push), try these tips and let us know if they work for you.

What are some things you do to build professional and/or personal relationships? Feel free to comment on our social media!

Happy Mother's Day

May 10, 2019

Hi, friends!

A MESSAGE FROM MARBELIS

This Sunday, we get to celebrate all the wonderful mothers. We are happy to dedicate this week's blog post to every single mom out there. I think we all can agree that being a mother is challenging for multiple reasons. We want our children to do well, be respectful, find their passions, use their gifts, explore new opportunities and more. We truly want the best for them.

While this role may be challenging, it is also rewarding. We are blessed to be able to watch our children grow, learn and continue evolving. This isn't a day where we want to be praised for being a mom and doing what we are supposed to do. We enjoy this role, and it's nice to sit back and think to ourselves, "wow! I am doing the best I can, and my children, spouses, friends and family realize that." Thank you for loving us as we continue to love you. -

Magde and I take great pride in being moms and business women. We want to say Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers! You deserve, and you've earned it!

Enjoy your Mother's Day! We will see you soon

Soup and an Arepa

5/3/2019

Welcome to another post! We are pleased to know you guys are enjoying our weekly blogs! Today, we are going to discuss our lunch on Monday, May 6th! This year, Cinco De Mayo falls on a Sunday. We (Cesar and Marbelis) do not work on Sundays, but we would like to make something special for you. We thought it’d be a great idea to prepare a hearty soup the next day! Feel free to continue the celebration with us!

Most of our friends love our scratch-made chicken tortilla soup, so that will be the featured soup of the day on Monday! It will come with a cup of soup and an arepa on the side (instead of the usual bread). We hope you have a great time celebrating Cinco De Mayo, and we look forward to seeing you the next day!

Balancing Business and Family

March 22, 2019

Owning a business is both challenging and rewarding. Today, we want to focus on the art of balancing business and family.

Often times we look to local businesses to give the community what they want and when they want it. Besides, that's what they signed up for right? Well, it's important to remember that business owners have families as well, and their personal lives have to be considered. For us at Java Werks, we understand the commitment that we've made to our beloved Hattiesburg community and we want nothing more than to satisfy our guests, loyal customers and friends. That said, we sacrifice a lot of family time to make sure Java Werks is running smoothly.

Recently, we closed down on Sunday so that we could spend time with our children. It was something we went back and forth with, but ultimately decided it was best for our family, and it was. That break forced us to remember what is important in life. Family time is something you can't get back, so we want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the time you spend with your family. We also want to thank the Hattiesburg community for supporting us and being open-minded. We support the community, and the community supports us. That's how it should be. That's how it is. We are so thankful for every single one of you. Cheers to learning how to balance business and family!

Venezuelan Breakfast

March 15, 2019

The Venezuelan breakfast tradition is something that we will continue doing for the rest of our days. Nothing compares to the joy we feel when we spend quality time with family. The breakfast usually consists of arepas, eggs, shredded meat, black beans and cheese all spread out on the table for everyone to enjoy. We try to prioritize family time because time passes by so quickly and before you know it, the children are adults and heading off to live their own lives.

Due to the importance of breakfast time in Venezuela and what it means to us, we have decided to have our own Venezuelan breakfast for our friends (YOU)! The breakfast is April 6th at 10 in the morning. Be sure to email us at Javawerksevents@gmail.com to reserve AND pay for your breakfast plate. The menu can be found on our Facebook page. We hope to see you there!

International Women's Day

March 8, 2019

Happy International Women's Day!!!!

Today we celebrate our very own, Marbelis and Magde! They are mothers, sisters, chefs, wives, daughters and friends. Thank you Magde and Marbelis for contributing to the success of Java Werks and being an inspiration to women everywhere!

We also want to celebrate every woman regardless of your background or where you come from! We appreciate you. Please enjoy these excerpts from a poem written by Reese Leyva…

“Remember, Woman, you were born

life giver, miracle creator, magic maker.

You were born with the heart of a thousand mothers,

open and fearless and sweet…”

“…Remember, Woman, remember

you are more than you can see.

Remember, Woman, remember

you are loved endlessly.

Remember, Woman, your power, and grace,

the depth of your deep sea heart.

Never forget you are Woman, divine,

as you have been from the start.”

A Pocket Full of Love

Feb. 15, 2019

An arepa is an authentic, traditional Venezuelan (and Colombian) dish. We do it the Venezuelan way! It can be served as a simple bread or split down the middle with added filling. Our gluten-free arepas are prepared the exact way our grandmother used to make them. We aren't big fans of pre-made Arepas; they take 15-20 minutes to prepare.

The dough is made from a South American corn flour, and the filling is also made from scratch.

Filling choices include: chicken, pork, beef, black bean, black bean and cheese, or just a simple cheese filling.

The mixtures are combined with tomatoes, sauce, onions, garlic, salt, pepper, parsley and cilantro - and you can ask for toppings like colby-jack and cheddar cheese, greens and fresh sliced avocado (or you may request the traditional Venezuelan arepa, and we will be happy to give you a taste of our home).

Our arepas are a nice size and can act as a complete meal. Some of our friends prefer their arepa a little crisp on the outside, while others prefer it less crisp.

Please feel free to let us know how you would like yours! We look forward to seeing you soon and serving you a dish that makes us proud of our roots.

A Cup of Tea

Feb. 8, 2019

Here at Java Werks we take pride in our tea. It provides our friends with the essentials they need to make it through their day. Whether you need something to relax your mind, calm your nerves or assist with healing, we have over 34 choices of loose tea to choose from.

We offer white tea (lower in caffeine) and black tea (higher levels of caffeine) and everything in between. When our friends communicate their interest in our teas, we like to ask them their reasoning behind wanting tea. Is it for relaxation? Stress reduction? Help with sleep? Or simply for drinking purposes? Asking those questions allows us to provide them with the best tea experience possible for what they are looking for.

Two of our favorite teas are the organic Lavender Rose Green tea and Organic Lemon Ginger tea. The Lavender Rose Green tea assists with calming, relaxation, depression and sleep, while the Lemon Ginger tea is great for soothing colds, stomach aches and congestion. Sometimes we use our herbs to add additional healing properties or calming properties to the tea. One of our favorite herbs to use is the Yerba Mate; It is well known in Paraguay and helps with energy. It also serves as an effective antioxidant.

Everyone loves a good cup of coffee, and soon enough you’ll love a good cup of tea (if you don’t already). We look forward to serving you, and we hope to see you soon.
