Jataka Tales is a Buddhist moral stories reading application offering tales in Sinhala and English. The App is built with a privacy-first design:
No Account Required: You do not need to register, log in, or create a profile to read stories or use core app features.
Reading Data Stored Locally: Your bookmarks, reading progress, and display settings stay on your device.
No Data Brokerage: We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
Minimal Collection: We only collect or process data that is strictly necessary to deliver stories, display advertisements, receive your voluntary feedback, and maintain app security.
The App includes an optional in-app Contact Us form accessible via the Settings screen. If you choose to submit an inquiry, bug report, or feedback, we collect:

Purpose: This information is used solely to review, respond to, and resolve your inquiries or support requests. It is not used for marketing or added to promotional mailing lists.
The App stores reading preferences and progress locally on your Android device using standard application storage (AsyncStorage). This data is never transmitted to our servers:
Favorited Stories: List of story IDs you bookmark.
Reading Progress: Percentage of each story completed.
Recent Stories: List of recently opened tales.
Display Settings: Selected font size, light/dark theme preference, and language preference (Sinhala / English).
Onboarding Status: Flag indicating whether initial setup screens have been completed.
You can clear this data at any time by clearing the App's storage in Android Settings or by uninstalling the App.
The App provides an audio listening feature that reads stories aloud. This feature utilizes your Android device’s built-in, local Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine.
The App does not record audio, access your microphone, or transmit voice or spoken data to external servers.
To provide advertising, deliver media assets, and receive contact inquiries, the App integrates trusted third-party services:
The App displays banner advertisements powered by Google AdMob. To serve relevant ads, prevent ad fraud, and provide aggregated analytics, Google may automatically collect and process:
Device Advertising ID: Google Advertising ID (GAID / AAID).
Network Information: IP address (used to infer coarse/general geographic location such as city or country).
Technical Device Identifiers: Device model, Android OS version, system language, and network connection type.
Ad Interaction Events: Impressions, ad clicks, and viewability metrics.

You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising at any time through your Android device settings: Settings → Google → Ads → "Delete advertising ID" or "Reset advertising ID".
To keep the app installation size compact, story illustrations and over-the-air content updates (such as text corrections) are downloaded securely over HTTPS from Google Firebase Storage.
When your device requests images or story updates, standard web server access logs (such as your device's IP address, timestamp, and requested file path) are processed by Google Cloud infrastructure for file transmission, network routing, and security.
We do not use Firebase Authentication, Firebase Analytics, or Cloud Messaging in the App.
When you submit a message through the in-app Contact Form:
Your message is delivered to our support email inbox via FormSubmit (FormSubmit Privacy Policy).
An administrative record of the message is securely stored in Google Cloud Firestore to ensure our team can review and follow up on user inquiries.
We process information solely for the following purposes:
Core Functionality: Delivering stories, images, content updates, and maintaining your saved bookmarks and reading progress.
Customer Support: Communicating with you and resolving issues when you submit a support message.
Monetization & Free Access: Serving banner advertisements through Google AdMob to support continuous development and hosting costs.
Security & Integrity: Detecting and preventing technical bugs, fraud, unauthorized tampering, and abusive network requests.
Legal Compliance: Complying with applicable legal processes and regulatory obligations.
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is only disclosed under the following circumstances:
Service Providers: With Google (AdMob, Firebase Storage, Firestore) and FormSubmit strictly to perform their designated functions as described in Section 3.
Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or lawful governmental authority.
Protection of Rights: When necessary to protect the rights, property, safety, or security of our users, the developer, or the public.
Local App Data: Stored permanently on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the App.
Contact Support Inquiries: Retained only as long as necessary to address your feedback or provide customer support, after which they are routinely purged.
AdMob & Network Logs: Retained according to Google's standard data retention schedules.
If you have submitted a message through the Contact Us form and wish to have your contact details and message history permanently deleted from our records, simply email us at krishankulasinghe@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request". We will verify and process your deletion request within 30 days.
Jataka Tales presents classical Buddhist folklore, cultural literature, and moral lessons suitable for a general audience and family viewing. The App is not directed specifically at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are a parent or guardian and become aware that your child has submitted personal details through our contact form without your consent, please contact us at krishankulasinghe@gmail.com, and we will promptly delete that information from our records.
We take reasonable technical and administrative precautions to safeguard your information:
All external network communications (content downloads, contact submissions, and ad requests) are encrypted in transit using Transport Layer Security (TLS / HTTPS).
Reading data and preferences remain strictly confined to the local sandbox storage of your device.
Please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or mobile network is 100% secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
