Meet The Artist

Hello and Welcome to My Online Gallery...

After decades of making a living working for home builders as an independent contractor, an opportunity arose for me to pursue a second career as a visual artist.

The things I make and the materials and mediums I use vary. I paint with both oils and acrylics; I use gouache, pastel, pen and ink (sometimes mixing media) on paper, panel, cardboard or canvas.

The sculptures and objets d'art I epoxy and fasten together from found objects that come from estate sales, thrift stores, and antique malls. I also use broken and flattened car parts and other "street treats" I find while riding my bicycle on the roads around my house.

For the collages I use product packaging, things that appear in my mailbox, images from my own sketchbooks, and other found ephemera.

Pallet wood also finds its way into my work. I like the idea of taking these durable utilitarian objects these woefully unappreciated pallets disassembling them and elevating their rough, weathered parts into something more sublime.

With my deep roots in the building trades, when I retired my tool belt and took up the mantle of "artisan/craftsman"--some ten years ago now--it seemed a natural transition, one that has given me countless hours of satisfaction and joy.

Thank you for taking a look at my art,

Jason Gravitt

COMMENTS FROM FELLOW ARTISTS

"When I visited Jason's home studio/gallery I found his distinct style (a sort of outsider, primitive, folk art vibe) delightful. His works incorporate unexpected combinations of found materials illustrating unconventional ideas that often reference a wide range of influence. Whimsical in nature they reflect his uninhibited approach to the experiences of his soul."

"Photographing Jason's art and building his website has been a pure delight! I love the colorful, whimsical portraits, assemblages, sculptures, drawings and objet d'art he creates, that have a life and soul of their own. To me they perfectly represent the concept of flow, the ever-changing nature of life, and the pure joy of having a new experience. Playful, inspired, and unique, Jason's art combines different materials and techniques united by his signature personal style."
