Jason Bales is a Durham-based singer/songwriter, drawing on early rock and roll, country and folk influences to create often-humorous back-porch shuffles about ghosts, villains and life’s uncertainties. Born in Michigan, he grew up surrounded by music and his father’s vast record collection. In college, he recorded three albums with Lansing alt-country rockers Flatfoot before moving to North Carolina in 2007 to pursue teaching.
Following a nearly decade-long hiatus from performing, he formed Durham-based rock band The Yardarm in 2017 and began playing solo shows. He has performed at venues all across North Carolina, and brings his dynamic voice and versatile guitar playing to every song he plays. He is currently working on recording new material both solo and with The Yardarm, to be released into the ether at some point in our lifetime.
