Jason Shattuck - Sigmund Freud

While studying at Westfield State, Jason Shattuck was introduced to Sigmund Freud. Quickly, he found himself fascinated with Freudian ideas. Today, Shattuck fosters his fascination with other fans of Freud on social media. His Facebook Group, “Inside Freud’s Consulting Room” is home to thought-provoking discussion on a multitude of Freudian ideas. Members of the group dive deep into modern interpretations of concepts presented by the founder of psychoanalysis himself.

Jason Shattuck’s favorite books by Sigmund Freud include “Totem and Taboo,” “The Interpretation of Dreams” and “On Mourning and Melancholia.” He also enjoys modern analytical texts that translate Freud’s ideas in the current era. Simultaneously simple and complex, Freud’s view of the human mind proves to transcend time.

In his free time, Jason Shattuck enjoys collecting sand timers. With quite a collection of his own, Shattuck considers himself to be an enthusiast more than a collector. Initially drawn to the artistic nature of these centuries-old time tellers, the interest was initially visual. But in time, Shattuck has discovered deeper meaning in his collection. In many ways, time is central to Shattuck’s personal philosophy. Both in his work in the mental health field, as well as in his own life, he deeply values the notion that time heals all things. His growing collection of sand timers serves as a constant reminder of that idea.
