Organizers

The Tokai University European Center (TUEC) was founded in 1970 in order to promote academic and cultural exchange with European countries.

Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae (1901-1991), the founder of Tokai University Educational System (TES), was deeply influenced by the concepts and ideals of N.F.S. Grundtvig, and opened the first schools under TES based on the model of Danish folk high schools. TES now encompasses instutions ranging from preschool to postgraduate both in Japan and abroad.

The choice of Denmark as the site of TUEC was natural due to the deep and abiding ties, and in 2020 TUEC could celebrate its 50 year anniversary.

"In order to enhance the relations between our nations, it is all the more crucial to deepen the knowledge of each other's history, culture and societies. As various international developments are affecting the world order today, the need to further understand each other as how to tackle those challenges has become increasingly important. The relations between Japan and Denmark cannot be apart from such international situations."

Part of Message from H.E. Ambassador Miyagawa Manabu

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) was established in 1932 through an endowment by Emperor Showa for the purpose of contributing to the advancement of science. Now it is recognized as Japan’s core funding agency supporting the advancement of scientific research in all fields.

JSPS Stockholm Office was founded in 2001 to build robust international cooperative networks and to promote research collaborations between Japan and the Nordic and Baltic countries.

JSPS Alumni Club in Denmark (ACD) was established in 2015 by the initiative of former JSPS fellows, with the support of the JSPS Stockholm Office
