Anna (stylized as ANA) is a 2019 action thriller film written, produced and directed by Luc Besson. The film stars Sasha Luss as the eponymous assassin, alongside Luke Evans, Cillian Murphy, Helen Mirren, and Alexander Petrov.

On 9 October 2017, it was reported that Luc Besson's next film would be Anna, starring newcomer Sasha Luss, along with Helen Mirren, Luke Evans, and Cillian Murphy. EuropaCorp produced the film while Lionsgate handled the distribution under their Summit Entertainment label.[6]

Peter Debruge of Variety wrote, "Anna shows that Besson is the same filmmaker now that he was 20 years ago, and unlike his title character, who lithely adapts to whatever situation she's in, he's been telling roughly the same story over and over all this time."[18]

Brad Wheeler of The Globe and Mail called the film "a near-parody non-thriller" and was critical of the story structure: "Anna relies on a time-shifting structure that is laughably exhausting."[19]

Movie Nation critic Roger Moore gave the film one and a half out of four stars, and wrote: "There are a lot of irritants and clumsy touches to Besson's latest, infuriatingly inferior version of La Femme Nikita that ruin it." Moore criticized the "pointless flashbacks" and the cartoon physics of the fight scenes, though he praised Luss, writing that she "handles the action choreography with skill and emotes better than your average model turned actress".[20]

Noel Murray of the Los Angeles Times praised the film, "As a slick, over-the-top action picture, Anna works splendidly" but says the film is overshadowed by Besson's offscreen personal issues.[21]

Anna Friz creates media art, sound and transmission art, working across platforms to present installations, broadcasts, films and performances. Current projects include We Build Ruins, a series of media art works and film installations expressively considering mining and industrial corridors in the high altitude deserts in northern Chile, and projects concerning radio beacons, air traffic control, and military monitoring vs. citizen listening. Ongoing collaborations with Absolute Value of Noise, Jeff Kolar, Cynthia Ling Lee, Emmanuel Madan, Rodrigo Ros Zunino; also the NRRF Radio Collective, and Toronto-based collective Public Studio to create multi-channel film installations and sculptures which critically consider the social politics of landscape, environment and urban systems.

She continues to inspire actors and filmmakers today.

Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick has long been sought after for her comedic and vocal talents. From the "Pitch Perfect" film franchise to "Love Life" HBO Max series, she's one of the busiest working actresses in recent years.

Along the way came the script for Mary Nighy's "Alice, Darling." Written by Alanna Francis, the film focuses on Alice, a woman who seems to have it all with her handsome boyfriend, Simon, but behind closed doors is struggling with the emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship. Not only would it be a more quiet and meditative role for Kendrick, but one that she could relate to in more ways than one.

Local audiences will get a chance to view the film and listen to a conversation with Kendrick at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. A Talking Pictures screening is scheduled for Jan. 14 at the Palm Springs Art Museum's Annenberg Theater.

In "Alice, Darling," the film is careful not to focus too much on the abusive behavior Simon (Charlie Carrick), a successful artist, exhibits toward Alice (Kendrick), and instead chooses to focus on their effects. Alice has to tip-toe around her partner so as not to set him off, and often punishes herself when she feels like she's done wrong. When her best friends Sophie (Wunmi Mosaku) and Tess (Kaniehtiio Horn) invite her to a lakeside cabin for a birthday celebration, Alice instead tells Simon she has to go on a work trip.

What made the story even more impactful was its exploration of female friendships. Throughout the film, Alice, Sophie and Tess hit roadblocks with each other until they're able to open up and express what's been hurting them, particularly Alice. Once she reveals what's been happening behind closed doors, her friends become supportive and protective, especially when an uninvited visitor crashes their trip.

There's no one right takeaway from "Alice, Darling." It would be easy to hope that people who are in a similar situation could see themselves in the film, but when Kendrick thinks about her own experience, she doesn't know what would have been helpful to see or hear mainly because "I don't know what I was ready to hear," she said.

In 2006, Fleck and Boden made the award-winning film HALF NELSON starring Ryan Gosling, who received an Academy Award nomination for his performance. The film also won Movie of the Year at the AFI Awards, received Spirit Award nominations for Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, and won Best Film, Director and Breakthrough Performance at the Gotham Awards that year.

They next wrote and directed the independent film SUGAR, an introspective sports drama following the life of a talented Dominican baseball player, which won Movie of the Year at the AFI Awards and received a Spirit Award nomination for Best Screenplay.

Clarence Brown's 1935 adaptation of Anna Karenina holds significant importance as one of the earliest successful film adaptations of Leo Tolstoy's renowned novel. It helped introduce a broader audience to the timeless story, showcasing Brown's directorial skill and capturing the emotional depth of the characters while navigating the challenges of translating a complex literary work to the screen.

But her latest project, a psychological thriller called "Alice Darling," could be her strongest performance yet. Kendrick joined host Lisa McRee on LA Times Today to talk about the film, and why it's resonating with survivors of emotional abuse.

"It was a really cathartic thing to make the film and be around so many people who shared their stories," said Kendrick. "One of the actresses in it said to me the first day of filming that she was really excited to see my performance because the performance was sort of the evidence [of the abuse]. And I found that so powerful because she was talking about the movie and the performance, but it really resonated for me too, that I know myself and I am the evidence. I don't need to catalog what he said on this day and how that went down. I know what my experience was, and I'm the evidence, and that's enough."

Anna May Wong was born in Los Angeles on January 3rd, 1905. Her birth name was Wong Liu Tsong. Her father was Wong Sam Sing, and her mother was Lee Gon Toy. Anna was the second of 8 children. From a young age, Anna was captivated by filmmaking. She started work as an extra, but earned attention and acclaim for her beauty, style, and naturalistic acting. Before long, she landed her first starring role in the 1922 Technicolor film The Toll of the Sea, a retelling of Madame Butterfly, set in China instead of Japan. She was all of 17 years old.

In her films of this era, Wong transcends the typecasting, exhibiting the acting skills and screen presence that would have made her a perfect leading lady, but Hollywood failed her. Beyond simple racist myopia, the Hollywood production code prohibited depictions of mixed-race love on screen, making it nearly impossible for Wong to play a romantic lead.

Anna May Wong was born during a time when multiple federal exclusion laws targeted Asians in the United States while their labor had been actively recruited on plantations, in shipyards, and in the military. In her pointed questions to the film industry, Wong knew that the fullness of what it meant to be an Asian person in the United States was much more than what was being offered to her and to audiences.

Weber took her role in the industry seriously, so when the challenge of directing The Dumb Girl of Portici presented itself, she accepted it with the determination and passion for which she was known. The resulting film, with Pavlova as the star, brought together two women who remain hugely influential in their respective fields.

Kendrick is now known in Hollywood for her quirky humour and melodic voice, but it was her supporting role in the movie Twilight that launched her into fame and landed her roles alongside people like George Clooney, Olivia Wilde and Blake Lively. While probably known best as the star of the musical comedy Pitch Perfect, Kendrick's latest film Alice, Darling showcases a very different side of the actor.

One of the first people that saw it was telling me that "For half the movie, I really wasn't sure if Alice was making it up, or what was going on." And that's when it hit me. That's the thing I couldn't quite put into language as we were making the film. That was sort of the point. be457b7860
