Janet Chen (Ma) (she/her/hers) is an award-winning film and multimedia director, producer and educator. Her work often explores stories of representation, resistance, and resilience through a multigenerational lens. Her projects have been featured and won awards in film festivals, conferences and community events internationally, and her collaborations have been nominated for Emmy and Webby awards. Janet holds a M.F.A. and has taught filmmaking at UCLA, UCI, and in community programs. She was the founding steering committee member and manager of A-Doc (Asian American Documentary Network), and is a member of Video Consortium and Brown Girls Doc Mafia. Her latest short film, ASIAN BITCHES SPEAK, was honored with a Special Jury Award for Documentary Short from the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and a Best Director Award from QFilms LGBTQ+ Film Festival, among other awards. The film toured the United States as part of “Resistance & Joy,” a program of the inaugural Color Congress Elev8Docs Distribution Initiative, and has also screened internationally in Asia, Canada, New Zealand and Europe.
