The Exploit Database is a CVE compliant archive of public exploits and corresponding vulnerable software, developed for use by penetration testers and vulnerability researchers. Our aim is to serve the most comprehensive collection of exploits gathered through direct submissions, mailing lists, as well as other public sources, and present them in a freely-available and easy-to-navigate database. The Exploit Database is a repository for exploits and proof-of-concepts rather than advisories, making it a valuable resource for those who need actionable data right away.

I have recently (around 2 weeks ago) made the switch from provider-hosted email to self-hosted email. I have put that off for a long time, but since the provider (Servercow) drastically increased prices at the end of last year, I decided to migrate.

As someone who manages email servers daily. I would strongly suggest you use a smart host for your outgoing mail. It eliminates the problem of IP reputation that others have mentioned here. Mailcow is great as is Poste.io, both are docker based. Docker makes it easier to update, backup and migrate to another server should the need arise.

A smart host or smarthost is an email server via which third parties can send emails and have them forwarded on to the email recipients' email servers. Smarthosts were originally open mail relays, but most providers now requiring authentication from the sender, to verify that the sender is authorised - for example, an ISP might run a smarthost for their paying customers only. In an effort to reduce email spam originating from their customer's IP addresses, some internet service providers (ISPs)...

I have two different mail servers running behind the Sophos XG v16.01.2, Exchange 2016 and Ability Mail Server (AMS is only used for a mailing list functionality with subject modification and catch-all email address forwarding).

- if I set the AMS server in the host list almost all emails get forwarded, (I have configured the AMS server to be a backup for the exchange hosted domains as a temporary fix to forward them all to the exchange server). This works for about 97% of the incoming emails and the spool stays empty.

But then one or two emails are received that gets stuck in the mail queue and will not get forwarded to AMS and does not show up in the AMS smtp logs as a connection even being established, let alone the transaction starting,

The "fix" to this is to try the Exchange IPv4 or Exchange IPv6 addresses one at a time and retry the email, and sometimes the IPv4 address will work and sometimes the IPv6 address will work (it is independent of if it was received over IPv4 or IPv6, one today was received as IPv4 but would only deliver to exchange over IPv6 after failing AMS and exchange IPv4)

Is there a quick way to test SMTP settings. I am using mailtrap.io for dev testing as the SMTP server so that no email leave the forum to real live users as I have migrated my data over form VBulliten 4.2 so I don't want to accidentally send out emails to these users. I have tested with the server sending out emails with no issues for a new user but when i set the SMTP server settings i never get the email so I was wondering if there was a way to look at logs for this or a quick way of testing :)

Nothing that I know of. But I would strongly recommend some mailing service like sendpulse, bluehost, sendgrid or whatever. For lesser number of mails they are free and they are much more reliable then PHP mailer on your local machine can be.

I will be sending out through gmail servers when I am done. I will authenticate to their relay servers and send out through them VIA SMTP and TLS. Sending email out through PHP mail (I would agree with you) is not really reliable!

The second idea would be to include restrictions on mailing alts across realms. The first restriction would be no gold is allowed to be mailed, only items. The 2nd restriction would be a cooldown on the feature. Like item restoration, you would need to wait a proposed 1 month cooldown before you can resend mail to alts on another realm.

Thanks for the reply.

Mailwasher allows you to view and filter your emails before they reach your computer, so if a particular email can harm your computer you can still open it if you wish in Mailwasherwith no danger. So yes I suppose it is a spam filter. You then simply mark selected emails for deletion. The emails that are left (those you want to keep) can then be downloaded to your computer by clicking on the a particular button in the Mailwasher menu bar and this action then deletes the emails you have selected and then loads your email program, in my case eM.

eM then opens on my computer. With other programs I have used, eg. Thunderbird, Opera etc. the emails from Mailwasher then automatically appear in the inbox. With eM however I have to click on the Send and Receive button to get them. Once I click this button everthing works fine. This appears to be how eM works and as I said in my previous post, it is no big deal. It is more the fact that I am used to the email program getting the email on an automatic basis. I just wanted to know can eM get your email straight from the server, or in my case, Mailwasher, or will it only download email when the Send and Receive button is clicked.

Thanks a lot.

OK Paul you have given me food for thought, and it makes sense. I just have to figure out how to grab the mail before it hits the server. I might contact my ISP and see if they can suggest a way.

Thanks a lot for your help Paul

Server side filters have this ability, check with your mail service provider on advanced spam filtering options on your domain/account or use one of the common tools, e.g. spamihilator which should be able to put a spam filter on your mail server, rather than locally on your computer.

In the spirit of transparency, we wanted to share that unfortunately, the ability to configure SMTP server to send out Jira emails will not be prioritised in the near term. We understand that this may not be the answer you were hoping for, especially considering the security and compliance benefits that have been mentioned. However, our current roadmap is focused on addressing the highest priority issues based on customer feedback and areas with the broadest reach. We are currently committed to improving the Jira notifications experience by focusing on sending the right notifications [JRACLOUD-1369: Reduce Jira email chattiness].

If there was an option to assign an e-mail address to a specific notebook (like we do in Slack, assigning an e-mail for a channel) we would be able to create RULEs in our e-mail clients that would file e-mails into specific notebooks.

I searched and could not find a way to automate this process. Using tools like Zapier, e-mails with attachments are not properly sent to Evernote. If anyone knows of a service that will receive an e-mail, allow us to change the subject and then redirect it to a new e-mail address please let me know.

I don't have a solution but you can set up several import folders with different notebooks for each. If you import a plain text file it is rendered in a box in a note. So is there a solution whereby you can save your email as a text file into the appropriate folder? This wouldn't help with attachments or images so would be pretty basic.

The best solution is probably something within your email client to change the address automatically when the email goes into a certain folder. I don't know whether that functionaility exists within any email clients, but I'm sure could be done in a scripting language.

My ISP recently did a change in mail systems. So what use to work fine now doesn't in iOS/Outlook mobile.

I wish Outlook mobile would have in the Advance Settings options for the following:

Passwords: the ability to have custom settings for incoming/outgoing-SMTP because some of us do use this function or use third-party SMTP systems.

Recently Bluehost did emails systems changes, where my other company domain I literally had to spend 4.5 hours trying to figure out why my email was not working. Kept asking for login/password (which had worked fine for 5 yrs.) after being on hold for 45 mins. I finally got with a support person that we both realized Outlook Mobile does not have SSL/TTL setting I couldn't get Outlook Mobile to use the mail.domain.com I had to use their box# method, which means I'm at the mercy of their changes.

Please allow us to make changes in both Outlook Mobile and Outlook after we've done a setup for email. I so miss the old Outlook, where I was able to get to advance settings and do what's necessary sometimes.

This is great.. however there is no way to choose the file format, so the report is sent as HTML, and if that report is large (which is why it's slow) you end up with a massive email, or an email that fails to send due to mail server size limits. 5376163bf9
