Gunalchéesh to our elders for their deep knowledge of Lingít culture. Their voices form the foundation of this course, which draws from the 2004 Elders Forum where elders from across Southeast Alaska came together to discuss, identify and agree upon a list of Southeast Traditional Tribal Values.
About This Course:
Like a canoe, this Lingít language resource centers on the verb—its structure, function, and all the parts that work together to move the language forward. Rooted in a verb-based worldview, it helps learners embrace a perspective where relationships, humility, process, and contextual awareness take precedence.
Through the use of song, this pedagogy course supports language learners in rehearsing, retrieving, and recalling full phrases fluently. Use these links to meet the team, access the two-week modules and learn how to receive six continuing education credits (3 per semester) for teacher recertification.
