As a current Music Contributor, I write monthly live music reviews and album reviews for the magazine's music section, as well as occasional profiles.
As former New Venues Editor, I contributed quarterly feature article round-ups of new arts & cultural venues throughout my hometown, Dundee.
Having a strong network of industry contacts, being able to think creatively and keeping up to date with new trends allowed me to achieve a number of significant goals from the PR campaigns I led on at independnent PR agency, Wondrous Place. These included achieving national music press coverage in the form of news, reviews, features and Spotify editorial playlist selections across several artist campaigns.
Artists worked with included: Lizzie Reid, Wyldest, Jemima Coulter, Sprout, Ruby Gill, Rachel Sermanni, SOFT LAD & more.
I joined the DC Thomson team in Aberdeen as a full time print features writer during a pivotal digital transformation period for the company. This meant I had to adapt to new ways of working in a newsroom environment from the offset, by bringing fresh ideas to print and online platforms on a daily basis, allowing me to express my creativity and enthusiasm for journalism and feature writing in the process.
This week-long remote internship took place in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Clash's Co-founder/Editor, Robin Murray, oversaw my work during the internship and he continues to be a valuable mentor to me today. As well as building a host of new contacts, this experience allowed me to build on my writing, interviewing and networking skills significantly.
This opportunity arose after I contacted the NME music team regarding work experience opportunities as part of my undergraduate studies at Perth UHI.
Attracted thousands of readers nationwide by having two of my own original features commissioned online.
Acquired new editing and feature writing skills, voiced opinions in team briefings, consistently met deadlines and received high praise from staff writers.
OUTCAST. is a Dundee based music and arts zine which promotes an inclusive platform for creatives who embrace the alternative. The aim of OUTCAST. is to provide a fresh, welcoming platform for the different types of creatives that contribute to all corners of the music and arts scene within Scotland and beyond.
I spent several months writing my Masters dissertation on gender inequalities in the music industries and felt compelled to help make the creative industries a fairer and more inclusive place for all involved. As such, I hope that OUTCAST. can help to combat the prejudices of the creative industries by creating a new space, platform and voice for creatives who embrace their alternative selves to the full.
