I've noticed there isn't an option to force the enablement of Location Services on a Mac. I've opened a ticket with Apple and they said this is by design for privacy. I can completely understand that on a personally owned Mac, but for a corporate owned asset, we should have full access to the device in case it's lost or stolen and we can tell the last place it was, which means enabling location and not letting someone turn it off. People don't have any expectations of privacy with work computers and things like email or what applications are installed, I don't understand why Apple is drawing a line in the sand with location.

@easyedc I suppose the way to achieve that is to make location services something that is manageable if the device is 'supervised' because then that would generally be done via DEP or having a supervision identity on it however supervision identities can be installed offline using Apple Configurator.

Jamf Download Location

I had not created the required folder structure in the package /Users/Shared/ prior to exporting it (which is the location the script was expecting to find the package), so it was literally trying to save to root which is the default location and was getting denied causing the error.

Interestingly, I also found that if you had previously downloaded a similarily named package to that location (previous version of the installer) and not removed the package, the script could run it and you would end up with the older version reinstalling. So I scripted in a line to remove any package with that name before downloading it to avoid such situations.

Does anyone have a method to enable location services? I need to get this enabled so that the time on the machines will be correct. I have been able to set the time manually and with a script to a certain time zone, however we ship our macs to many different time zones for our employees after they are imaged. Would be great to have this set automatically based on location.

I'm currently using this, but have commented out the sections for "#Set an initial time zone" and "#Set specific time server", as these are being set elsewhere. -nation/discussions/13723/enabling-location-services-programmatically-via-c...

@JayDuff Thanks for sharing your script, Jay. I was working with it in a different manner on yesterday and figured out a pretty slick way to package the script to enable location services in system preferences/security & privacy/privacy so that its a sure-fire hit everytime.

This process is ideal in situations where you use Jamf Sites to track asset across different locations. You do not have to follow the below process. Reftab will still allow you to choose a default location for all Jamf devices to sync to and you can even manually move assets to other locations in Reftab.

You can allow or prevent local administrators on the computer from changing User and Location inventory information in Jamf Pro with the jamf binary by using the Allow local administrators to use the jamf binary recon verb to change User and Location inventory information in Jamf Pro checkbox. This is a feature which first appeared in Jamf Pro 10.20.x, but may not be well known.

Unload JAMF Check-In Task

If you have the JAMF Distribution Server previously setup and actively using it, you might want to temporarily unload the JAMF Check-in task while you are migrating the JDS storage location.

Capser Admin

Next, test that moving the JDS storage location did cause any issues by using the Casper Admin application and create a test item and make sure it is properly listed and synchronized.

This connector leverages the Jamf Pro API, one of the two APIs offered to Jamf Pro customers along with the Classic API. A documentation of the Classic API connector for Okta Workflows is available here: -us/Content/Topics/Workflows/connector-reference/jamf/jamf.htm

The Jamf Pro API supports OAuth (ROPC grant type) authentication, offers full JSON support with filtering, sorting and pagination functions. The complete documentation of this API is available here: -pro/reference/jamf-pro-api

The program uses employee location and movement to carry out an employer's mobile-use policy dynamically. For example, it can customize app availability, notification settings, and the availability of other device features. Once employees are no longer in a restricted state, the Jamf-TRUCE system returns the devices to normal.

It's located in the Powerpoint app itself, I can find the location by right clicking on Powerpoint, show package contents, contents, then go to Resources, then Office Themes. How to make Jamf add them to that location is another question...

ITS uses the Jamf MDM platform to provision and maintain Apple equipment in our workstation management program. We recently migrated our Jamf Pro on-premises server to a cloud-based instance. This substantially improves our ability to support devices irrespective of location. Yesterday we implemented Jamf Connect, which integrates local macOS accounts with individual Microsoft accounts. These changes are part of our ongoing evolution of existing device management tools and capabilities. They simplify and improve infrastructure management for ITS while providing a better, more flexible experience for customers.

TRUCE and Jamf are leveraging iBeacon technology in order to implement this solution, and it looks like there are potential use cases across all types of verticals. An example of how this solution might work is when an iPhone is enrolled in Jamf using the TRUCE integration, their camera might be automatically disabled when they are in a high-security area. When the employee leaves the area, the camera is automatically re-enabled. The solution dynamically enforces mobile device use policy by customizing app availability, notification settings, and other device functions based on location or movement. Jamf has detailed more about the solution on their new worker safety website. 006ab0faaa
