The Game

'The Game' is an instrumental Alternative Rock song & the 2nd song on the 2012 Kyshera album 'Made In China'. The music & production are by James Kennedy.

The title of the piece is a reference to the book 'The Grand Chessboard' by Zbigniew Brzezinski (a chessboard is featured on the cover of the album) but also to the fact that the song itself is actually a musical game. The song starts at a slow tempo & gradually speeds up & up throughout, until the end when it is just a mess of noise. Throughout, the Bass part can only play 1 note (and A) in different octaves and the Guitar solo plays for the full minute & a half but doesn't play in any particular scale or key, leaving the Bass note vague as to whether it is the root note or some other. Kennedy achieved the Guitars tonal & rhythmic separation from the rest of the track by using a recording technique called Xenochrony, whereby the Guitar solo was actually performed over a different rhythm track & then edited onto 'The Game's' rhythm track afterwards. The result is a very atonal & Polyrhythmic Guitar solo which meanders over the tight & ever speeding rhythm track.

As all of the above races along, the track also features vocal samples from the likes of Margaret Thatcher & George W Bush until the songs climax overlaps straight in to the next song.
