Entertainer
Words & Music by James Kennedy
'Entertainer' is an Alternative Rock song & the 6th song on the 2017 James Kennedy album 'Home'. The words, music & production are by James Kennedy.
'Entertainer' is possibly the heaviest song on 'Home' and the one most resembling Kennedys work with KYSHERA. in fact, the subject of the songs lyrics are definitely inspired by Kennedys touring experiences in KYSHERA. The song features Drums, Bass, distorted, clean & acoustic guitars, Synth, effects, gang vocals, harmonies & vocals, all performed by Kennedy. Dark in nature, the song carries many similarities to the KYSHERA song 'Break This'. Lyrically, the song is about the emotional rollercoaster of being an entertainer and how it can be very unhealthy. The song covers several areas of this including the mistaken intimacy & feelings of love felt during a performance followed immediately afterwards by the loneliness & isolation of a hotel or bus; the huge surge of adrenaline & intensity on stage and the huge chemical crash afterwards; a life constantly on the move and a feeling that all of the people you meet along the way only like the idea of you but not the real person. 'Entertainer' was written during Kennedy's emotional burnout of 2016 and shows much disdain & suspicion for the world he'd spent most of his time in by that point.
LYRICS
The lights go down once more
And I’m packed away within these walls
And it’s not like before
When we all thought it was real
What started with meaning
Caught on fire
And became a smokesreen
I’m your entertainer
I’ll wash you in my shine
And once I’ve entertained ya
I’m hanging out to dry
We’ve got a one dimensional, expectational
Temporary love
I’m your entertainer
So maybe for a while, we can both pretend
I live on plastic screens, magazines
Fantasies and dreams
But if you dare to see my reality
I could use the company
Whats started with feeling
Became a machine
And I’m lost as sea
I’m your entertainer
I wash you in my shine
And once I’ve entertained ya
I’m hanging out to dry
It’s a one directional, insta-ttainable
Superficial love
I’m your entertainer
So maybe for a while, we can both pretend
I can be anything
But I can’t be anything else
When you’re on top of the world
The only way is down
Will anyone catch me
I’m your entertainer
‘But I feed on it’
I wash you in my shine
‘Like you feed on me’
And once I’ve entertained ya
‘But I feed on it’
I’m hanging out to dry
‘Like you feed on me’
Oh I’m your entertainer
I’ll wash you in my shine
And once I’ve entertained ya
I’m hanging out to dry
It’s irresistable, so sensational
We can’t get enough
I’m your entertainer
And I wish that tonight would never end
