Jailer is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth in the lead role, alongside Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Mirnaa Menon, and Yogi Babu in supporting roles. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Tamannaah Bhatia and Sunil play guest appearances. It revolves around a retired jailer seeking to apprehend an eccentric idol smuggler.

First, Muthuvel blackmails a psychiatrist S. Dhandapani into providing asylum for his family. He then visits Narasimha, a reformed criminal living in Mandya, who loans him four of his sharpest shooters. With the help of Narasimha's men, Muthuvel steals Varman's idols that were being smuggled and uses them to blackmail and humiliate Varman, who was about to kill his family. In response, Varman thires a Bihari gangster named Kamdev to send people to kill Muthuvel and his family at his home, but Muthuvel and Narasimha's men finish them off. On discovering Varman's target to be Muthuvel, Kamdev reveals to him that Muthuvel was the former ruthless and charismatic jailer of Tihar prison who disciplined the criminals harshly but also helped them reform, thus gaining a massive network of allies, including Kamdev.

In Jailer, Rajinikanth plays a prison jailer and the film has been majorly shot inside a prison. Recently, pictures of Rajinikanth posing with a little girl on the sets of Jailer surfaced on social media. In the pictures, he can be seen signing an autograph on a book and giving the kid a hug from behind while posing for a picture. Reacting to the pictures, fans said the kid is lucky and blessed. Rajinikanth has teamed up with director Nelson for Jailer, which also stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Vinayakan and Ramya Krishnan in key roles.

The highly anticipated project, which is touted to be an action thriller, features Rajinikanth in the role of a jailer who is on a mission. Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar is playing the lead antagonist in the movie, which features Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, and others in supporting roles. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is making a special appearance in the film. Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff is also part of the film. Rajinikanth and Jackie Shroff are reuniting after 36 years. The duo previously worked together in the film, Uttar Dakshin.

Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the plot of Jailer revolves around Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth), a strict yet empathetic jailer, who finds himself in a complex situation when he tries to stop a criminal gang from rescuing their leader from prison.

The makers of the film unveiled the first look of Mohanlal from the sets. The production house Sun Pictures unveiled his first look from Rajinikanth's 169th film and wrote, "Lalettan @mohanlal from the sets of #Jailer."
