일상에서 옳고 그름을 명백하게 판단하기 어려운 딜레마 상황에 대한 관찰을 통해 윤리의 개념을 탐구하는 데 관심을 두고 있다. 사회 질서의 언어 안에서 무질서가 드러나고, 혼돈 속에서 이성적 사유가 발화되는—즉 이성과 광기가 분별되지 않고 서로 끊임없이 동요하는—지점에 대한 관찰을 통해, 우리 시대의 규범과 그 안에 부재한 것이 무엇인지에 대한 질문을 지속해 오고 있다. 특히 정치, 경제, 역사적 갈등이 남긴 흔적을 장기간 기록하고 수집하며 관찰하는 과정을 통해, 물질적 흔적 이면에 내포된 형이상학적 개념으로서의 윤리성 문제를 추적하고 질문하는 방식으로 작업을 수행한다.
최근에는 《코스모그라피아》(서울로미디어캔버스, 서울, 2019), 《도깨비 터》(신촌극장, 2020), 《어느 장면》(신촌극장, 2021), 《코메디아》(shhh, 2022) 등의 개인전을 진행했으며, 《리플렉트 프로젝트》(서울시-문화체육관광부 공공예술 프로젝트, 2021–2024)를 기획 및 감독했다. 참여 전시로는 《제23회 브르노 국제디자인비엔날레》(모라비안 뮤지엄, 체코, 2008), 《Public Space? Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)에서 학사, MIT 예술·문화·기술 대학원에서 석사, University of California, San Diego (UCSD) 시각예술 프로그램에서 박사 학위를 받았다. 박사 논문 《윤리의 시선: 시각성과 윤리 연구 The Eye of Ethics: Study of Ethics in Visuality》를 통해 윤리성과 시각성의 관계를 연구했다. Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral, 국립현대미술관 고양 레지던시, 금천예술공장, SeMA 난지미술창작스튜디오 입주 작가로 활동했으며, 영상예술 연구·전시 공간인 쉬(shhh)를 설립하여 전시, 스크리닝, 출판, 워크숍 등 다양한 프로그램을 기획하고 있다. 작품은 국립현대미술관, MMCA 정부미술은행, 인천미술은행, SeMA 서서울미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.

Jaekyung Jung is interested in tracing ambivalence in the everyday life of the city, which stands between what is ethically right and wrong. He employs moving images to reveal such interests. In particular, Jung is interested in investigating the zones where disorder is revealed within the social order and rational thought is manifested within chaos – the unstable areas where reason and madness are not distinguished and constantly remain in the state of mutual unrest. His works have been exhibited at the “23rd Brno International Biennial of Graphic Design” (Moravia Gallery, Brno, Czech Republic, 2008), “Public Space? Lost & Found” (MIT Media Lab, Boston, USA, 2014), “Art(ificial) Garden, The Border Between Us” (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art or MMCA, CheongJu, Korea, 2021), “Watch and Chill 3.0: Streaming Suspense” (MMCA, Seoul, 2023), and “2086: Together How?” (the Korean Pavilion of the 18th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition, Venice, 2023), among many. His recent solo exhibitions include “Cosmographia” (Seoullo Media Canvas, Seoul, 2019), “The Realm of Ghosts”, “A Scene” (Sinchon Theater, Seoul, 2020/21), and “Commedia” (shhh, 2022).
Jung holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, a Master of Science in Visual Studies from MIT, and a PhD in Art and Media History, Theory, and Criticism – Art Practice Concentration from the University of California, San Diego. He also participated as a resident artist at the National Museum of Contemporary Art Residency in Goyang (KR), Seoul Art Space in Geumcheon (KR), Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral (GE), and Seoul Museum of Art Nanji Residency. Recently, he worked as an art director for a public art project, “Reflect Project” (Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, 2021–24), a commissioned project supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In 2021, Jung founded "shhh," an art space focusing on time-based art research and exhibition based in Incheon, South Korea. His work is part of the permanent collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA), MMCA Government Art Bank, Incheon Art Bank, and Seo-Seoul Museum of Art in South Korea.
