Jacobus Cilliers

I am a development economist at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, and an affiliate with gui2de and the Jameel Poverty Action Lab.

My research focuses on improving the quality of education in sub-Saharan Africa, with a specific focus on working within government systems, and the role that local government bureaucrats play in service delivery. Prior to joining McCourt, I was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the Blavatnik School of Government (University of Oxford), and a consultant to the Education Global Practice at the World Bank.

I completed my M.Phil (distinction) and D.Phil in Economics at the University of Oxford, where I was funded by the Rhodes Scholarship. I am a South African citizen.
