The project Oscillating Country is abstracted from ideas that are investigated using a psychogeographical mapping of our site context, and exploring historic values and indigenous heritage. The project demonstrates a renewed agency denoting the difference in connection between land and the programs through three varying levels: in country, on country and off country. This is reflected in the forms of each end of the site, with the sound shell emerging from the country compared to the blunt, distanced performance space. While the program is supported by the catering to the local community site, with on country, as a pillar holding up the forms. We acknowledge the scale of this performance space as well as the tourists that will visit the site, rather than the locals. We justify this physical distancing based on its connection to the country.
IN COUNTRY, we have the Koories Sound Shell permeating into the ground conditions, highlighting its agency due to its deep-rooted links to indigenous Australian culture and heritage. We represent sound as a tangible form projecting its voices to the performance space.
ON COUNTRY transitioning into our programs for community spaces and sound studios for the Docklands communities and facilities, that is emphasised as pillars that support the structure.
OFF COUNTRY, located above the pillars, is the performance space which international and emerging artists come to visit the space for performances. As a form that anchors attraction for visitors.
