The CATARACT is where it falls into the void between the Swanston central and Design HUB. The core concept of the project is understanding how to create successful connections and flow within the building. The project aims to create a relationship with the public area and to pay more attention of the aspect of ‘design’. The building focuses on critical areas of heritage, materials, residential spaces, commercial spaces and activating unused public spaces. The building is developed by thousands of agent bodies subtly scaled in different sizes to form the whole project, while it sustains its own structural integrity. The overall building is a multi-material structure with using timber as its primary source. As the colors defines it’s exterior and interior aspects with a gradient transition inspired by the colors of a peacock feather. The whole geometry is intended to create directional flow and connections to spaces as the meaning of “Cataract” defines its immense geometry with movement.
